Vampire Survivors Chaos Update Adding New Content Later This Week

A new Vampire Survivors update is coming to multiple platforms this week, bringing a flurry of chaotic content for players to enjoy.

Later this week, Vampire Survivors will release version 1.3.0 as a free update on all platforms the game is on. The “Chaos Update” will bring a new challenge stage inspired heavily by another video game franchise, along with two new relics and three achievements for Vampire Survivors players to collect. Plus, one particular relic will receive a power-up under the right conditions.

Created by solo developer Luca Galante, Vampire Survivors became the hit indie darling for most of 2022, even after it went from early access to full release last October. With an insane amount of replay value, and over 174,000 positive reviews on Steam, Vampire Survivors has become a staple in the indie game scene despite its lack of a titular vampire at the time of writing. With an expansion and some major updates under their belt, the development team at Poncle is set to release another free update for players to sink their teeth into.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Chaos Update for Vampire Survivors will be released this Thursday, February 9, on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and mobile devices. The release of the free update comes nearly two months since the Legacy of the Moonspell expansion was released. The Chaos Update’s new stage is titled “Bat Country” and features only the titular winged creatures for players to take out in droves. The Chaos Malachite was revealed as one of the relics, which is stated to have a special interaction with the skeletal Mortaccio upon attaining level 80.

As pointed out by various players on social media, the update’s name and the new level are homages to the Sonic the Hedgehog series. In a gameplay trailer for the update, special stage elements inspired by 1991’s Sonic the Hedgehog and 1994’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were seen, with the Bat Country level’s background referencing the latter’s Blue Spheres stages. Even the Chaos Malachite relic is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Chaos Emeralds from the Sonic series.

On December 8, Vampire Survivors released a mobile version in an effort to combat clones and provide a less predatory take on the free-to-play experience. As a result of their stance, Poncle chose to develop the mobile version in-house, and keep gameplay uninterrupted with a controllable “Watch Ads” button for players to tap on. With the Chaos Update hitting the mobile version soon, there is still no timetable for Legacy of the Moonspell to receive a port.

The Chaos Update is just the first bit of news for Vampire Survivors to come this year. With more updates and DLC planned throughout the year, albeit at a slower pace, the indie darling of 2022 will keep the momentum going in 2023.

Vampire Survivors is available now for Android, iOS, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
