Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 launched back in 2018, receiving high praise both from players and critics alike who spent countless hours swinging around the streets of New York and beating the various bad guys populating them to a pulp. With the Spider-Verse seemingly tying itself together with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, many are wondering if and when there will be tie-ins between the characters of the videogames, animation and live-action films.
Already fans have taken to social media to post their interpretations of what a crossover between Insomniac’s videogame and Marvel’s live-action products. As Spider-Man (2018) featured a lot of costumes from various Spidey eras for the player to choose from, one fan decided to combine the Iron-Spider suit from the MCU movies with the Iron-Spider suit seen in the PS4 game. Beyond the love of the fans though, it seems even the Spider-Man actor Tom Holland holds a fondness for the videogame.
Speaking in an interview which was then posted to Reddit, Holland states “I have played [Spider-Man] and I absolutely loved it… I would play it at home and I loved it I think the game is amazing, it’s so fun. The swinging around the city is so well done.” The actor then went on to say that there is even a move from the game that will be seen in No Way Home. What this move could be is up for speculation. Some think it will be the spectacular web blossom move, while others think it will be more simple and a mere slide under an enemy’s legs before kicking them in the back of the head.
While most fans were happy to see the actor shared their love for Spider-Man (2018), there were some more sceptical viewers. Among the few commenters who seemed to simply dislike Holland’s performance, one Redditor believed the actor wasn’t genuine in his praise of the game. “He was extremely vague about it and only played it after 3 years of it being out because Sony gave him a PS5 and told him to play it,” they wrote.
The discussion then went on to compare Holland to Henry Cavill, the actor currently playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher series, and how Cavill displays a more “genuine” admiration of gaming and more nerdy hobbies. Considering both Holland and Cavill recently appeared on a talkshow together, where Cavill discussed his Warhammer hobby, the comparison and competition created between the two of them by fans seems needless. Whether Holland’s praise is genuine or not is up to personal perceptions, yet either way nothing of the PS4 game can be tarnished by these developments.
Marvel’s Spider-Man is available now on PS4 and PS5.
