Starfield Will Be at Gamescom, But Fans Shouldn’t Get Their Hopes Up

Bethesda’s upcoming, ambitious RPG Starfield will be at this year’s Gamescom, but fans should keep their expectations in check.

This year’s Gamescom will be a physical event again, and to celebrate such an occasion, a lot of video game companies are bringing their latest and upcoming titles to show off. Companies like Ubisoft and Xbox have announced Gamescom 2022 appearances and what they plan to do with their time at the event. Bethesda will also be at this year’s Gamescom, with its own booth where fans can get a look at upcoming titles such as Redfall and Starfield.

A recent post on Bethesda’s official website had fans excited as it seemed to indicate that new Starfield gameplay would be shown at this year’s event. The first and last time gamers peeked at Starfield gameplay was back at the Summer Game Fest in June, and so many were hoping that some new footage would make its way to Gamescom. However, it has since been clarified that Starfield won’t be showing anything new at the event in August. Instead, Bethesda has confirmed what fans can expect to see from its latest sci-fi RPG.

The original post, which can be viewed below, was later updated to clarify that fans could expect to see a replay of the Starfield and Redfall gameplay shown at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase. That update was then given another coat of paint to remove the mention of Starfield altogether, meaning that some questioned whether the game would even be at Gamescom. However, Bethesda has confirmed that the game will be at this year’s event in the form of a life-sized VASCO statue at the very least.

VASCO is a robot and one of the new companions for Starfield. With a wide frame and long, mechanical limbs, VASCO has an impressive design meant to reflect an industrial robot that has been retrofitted to help the player on their voyage. Their appearance at Gamescom will give fans a chance to take a picture with one of the characters they will be venturing around the galaxy with when the game launches in 2023.

The news that Starfield will have a limited presence at Gamescom is likely going to disappoint some fans, but there are plenty of other titles that will be showing off new content at the event. Recently, titles like High on Life and Hogwarts Legacy have confirmed that new gameplay will be shown at Gamescom 2022. Also, Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley has promised world premieres for gamers during his Opening Night Live stream which will take place on the first night of Gamescom.

Starfield is scheduled to release in 2023 on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
