Skyrim Player Removes Beard and Discovers Their Character Looks A Lot Like John Travolta

Character creation is a key mechanic in many popular RPGs, but sometimes the results can be quite surprising, as this Skyrim player discovered.

One of the things that makes role-playing games so popular among the fan base is the fact that players can customize their characters to their heart’s content, and the titles that allow such creative thinking often have quite in-depth mechanics and features, such that just making an avatar can take up a chunk of time. As a recent example, Elden Ring’s character creation is pretty advanced, with fans making all kinds of people, and really pushing the limits. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is another game that allows for a unique protagonist, but sometimes they can surprise even the players themselves.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a recent post on the Skyrim Subreddit, user VjornAllensson has discovered that, when utilizing the assistance of the in-game face sculptor, known as Galathil, to remove their character’s beard, they saw that they were no ordinary fantasy character. For some reason, most likely due to the opening moments of the game when they started their character, they look very similar to none other than Hollywood actor John Travolta.

This is amusing in a number of ways. Not only did the player not realize, until taking away the facial hair, that they’d accidentally created the movie star, but it also ties in with the famous actor’s current status among the community. While John Travolta is famous for roles in Pulp Fiction, Face/Off, and Grease, he’s become something of a meme over the years, particularly in animated gifs of him looking around in a confused manner. This discovery by the Skyrim player adds to this idea that Travolta is more than just a thespian. It is definitely similar to him, especially in the later stages, in which he is bald.

Given that VjornAllensson did not seem to realize what they’d done at first when their avatar was made, it kind of shows the sort of characters that Skyrim fans can make. Gamers can spend hours just tinkering with the options, and given that this main character had a beard at first, it was unlikely that the user intended this outcome.

For those who aren’t aware, Galathil is a Bosmer located in Ragged Flagon in Riften. Players can pay them 1,000 gold in order to change their appearance. While some choose to not do this, deciding instead to live with the character they’ve created right through the game, it does suggest that there may be other hidden celebrities masquerading as The Elder Scrolls adventurers that others may unearth at some point.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
