Sea of Thieves Season 6 Release Date Confirmed

Rare reveals a new trailer ahead of Season Six of Sea of Thieves, which shows off new rewards and the actual date when players can start earning.

While the initial launch period of Sea of Thieves wasn’t quite as good as Microsoft or Rare likely had hoped, the open sea pirate game showed potential. Thankfully, Rare continued to provide updates, not only to fix current issues with the experience, but to add more content as well. Initially relying on free updates and in-game microtransactions, Sea of Thieves continued to gain steam as it launched on PC and introduced a Pirates of the Caribbean crossover event last summer.

The continued effort has seemingly paid off as Sea of Thieves has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts over the past couple of years, especially as the game has continued to add more PvE style content like the Pirate’s Life content featuring Jack Sparrow that even solo players can enjoy. In addition, the game has adapted a seasonal model early last year, providing both challenges and rewards for players in addition to a paid plunder pass that gives players even more rewards on top of everything else. With Sea of Thieves about to enter its sixth season of content, Rare has finally announced a specific launch date.

The latest trailer for Sea of Thieves gives players a taste of Season Six which officially launches later this week on March 10. Content-wise, Season Six adds new “on demand” encounters in the form of six new haunted Sea Forts. As players storm the fort, they’ll engage in combat with phantom soldiers who hold a special treasury key for a room containing chests, skulls, and much more. These encounters are designed to be more player friendly than some of the other forts both in time to complete as well as overall challenge.

The update also includes a replayable Pirate Legend Voyage that launches later this season. The mission features randomized challenges to give the mission greater replay value and provides more context for the game’s lore and characters. Rare is planning to reveal more on this content later in Season Six.

Naturally, this season also comes with a new pass with 100 tiers of loot that can be earned for free simply by earning renown by playing. The Sea of Thieves trailer revealed a number of rewards like the Dark Relics sail, new cosmetic items, and even weapon skins. For those who don’t mind spending a bit of real coin can pick up the new Plunder Pass which comes with 14 Pirate Emporium items like the Forest’s Blessing Costume, ancient coins, and more.

Season Six certainly has some big things going on for fans and Rare has hinted that 2022 is going to be the biggest year yet for Sea of Thieves. Part of this includes new Mysteries and Adventures like the upcoming Pirate Legend voyage, though Rare has continued to keep many more surprised close to the vest.

Sea of Thieves is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
