Last month, the Generation 4 Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games were brought back in a cute chibi style after being requested by fans for years. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has been generally well-received among fans based on the sales numbers, but it has its issues, including several animation issues. That isn’t to say all the animations are broken. Some gamers are sharing footage of their favorite Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl spirits, like the hopping Seedot.
Since its release, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl‘s animation has been compared to the original games and the previous generation before it, Sword and Shield. This is alongside other issues the game has, like missing NPCs or the wrong legendary appearing, and some problems that were in the old games. On the other hand, some find the walking animations for some Pokemon downright adorable, making them want to use Pokemon they previously had no interest in.
Though many Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl players aren’t happy with the follower sprites, one Reddit user named Senor_andy posted a screenshot of Seedot hopping along as the trainer travels on his adventure, gathering several positive comments in the Pokemon community. The animation used was the same as the Pokemon Sun and Moon games. The little seed Pokemon has captured the hearts of several fans, prompting them to catch one of their own. Even the trainers who aren’t a fan of that specific Pokemon agree; the animation is adorable.
Never use Seedot, but his animation is too great to not have him follow me! from pokemon
Not all Pokemon were so lucky in the remake. Many snake-like Pokemon, such as Milotic, have odd or broken follow animations. These animations have the Pokemon appearing stiff and just gliding behind the trainer compared to the slithering that one would expect from such Pokemon. There is also the issue with the size of the Pokemon, such as with Rayquaza, who appears smaller than the trainer, despite being much larger. Worse than the size difference is Garchomp’s odd following animation as the Pokemon follows with his wings spread, gliding motionlessly behind the player creepily as if he is chasing the trainer for ill purposes.
Though the games have some issues that will hopefully be patched in the future, the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games have made some changes for the better, such as adding Pokemon that were not present in the original Diamond and Pearl games.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
