Hero Mastery is a single-player PvE experience where gamers can take on unique, hero-based challenges on multiple difficulties to practice the finer points of a character’s abilities. Players can earn points by completing objectives quickly and collecting coin pickups around the map, and they can compare their high scores with friends. When Hero Mastery launches midway through Overwatch 2 Season 6, five heroes will have Hero Mastery challenges: Sojourn, Tracer, Mercy, Winston, and Reinhardt.

Overwatch 2 is also implementing a player level system starting in Season 6. Players can earn experience per hero, based on various categories like games played or damage done, healed, or mitigated. At certain thresholds, players get emblems and badges for their heroes in Overwatch 2, unlocking special name cards inspired by those characters. There’s no limit to how much experience players can get in any category for each hero, so players won’t be forced to play differently to unlock these cosmetic perks.

The Story Missions in Overwatch 2: Invasion are finally moving the plot forward. The developers showed off footage from the Gothenburg and Rio Story Missions, featuring different enemies, massive maps, and charming character interactions. These moments showcase some Overwatch 2 characters meeting for the first time in lore, so players should expect some great dialogue in the Story Missions.

The Flashpoint maps also look far different from any other PvP mode in Overwatch 2. Players will need to capture one of several control points on the map, after which another will unlock elsewhere in the area. This contest continues across the sprawling map until one side wins three points. Both the New Junk City and Suravasa maps coming with the mode’s launch are the biggest PvP maps in Overwatch history.

Lastly, Event Missions are a co-op PvE mode where players work together to accomplish different objectives. The mode is designed to be evergreen and repeatable and will have some variance to keep it fresh. The first map, Underworld, is an expanded version of the King’s Row PvP map, but players should expect more maps and enemies in future Overwatch 2 updates. The stream did not reveal information about the upcoming support hero, but players can expect to learn more about the mysterious figure soon.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
