One of the stars in the recently released The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Jack Black, has shared that he thinks there should be a film adaptation of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption. Given that several gaming adaptations have hit both the big and small screens in the past few years, Black may be voicing out loud the thoughts of many Red Dead Redemption fans out there.

The number of film and TV companies that have tried to make gaming adaptations popular in mainstream media has definitely grown over the years. This explains the positive reception of animated series like Netflix’s Castlevania and Arcane or HBO’s live-action version of The Last of Us. Now that people seem to be more receptive to the kinds of stories video games have always had, it is not surprising for actors to want their favorite titles adapted into movies or TV series as well.

In a recent interview for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Black shared his sentiments about video games being turned into movies or TV series. Black believes that the film and TV industry will continue to look to gaming as references for future projects, given how the industry simply keeps on growing. The actor said that he is a fan of adaptations, especially when they are “done right.” What’s more, he shared that he found HBO’s The Last of Us “fantastic” and that he thinks there are more video game stories to be explored, particularly that of the Red Dead Redemption series.

Many fans will likely agree with Black’s statement about the Red Dead Redemption series. The video games have a variety of interesting characters, immersive gameplay, and a compelling storyline that have allowed it to be well recognized and loved in the gaming community. What’s more, the two titles have won awards and positive critical recognition when they launched, indicating just how well made they truly are. Black says the same in his interview, sharing that he thinks Red Dead Redemption has the same caliber or even a better storyline than The Last of Us.

Being one of the few actors who is open about his love for gaming, Black is possibly a strong advocate for video game adaptations into mainstream media.
