Horizon Forbidden West is one of the most anticipated games of 2022, releasing in an already stacked February alongside other heavy hitters like Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Sifu, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, and more. It’ll be interesting to see how all these games do going head to head like this, but it’s possible there are delays between now and then. Nonetheless, Horizon Forbidden West is preparing for release.
Now, fans know how big Horizon Forbidden West’s file size is when it releases for PS4 and PS5. Games only tend to get bigger, so it should come as no surprise that the game is absolutely massive.
Not counting the day one patch, Horizon Forbidden West’s download size comes in at 96.350 GBs. What is included in the day one patch remains to be seen, but it is likely to have one that pushes that size over 100 GBs. It is noted that some games in the database have bigger sizes than when released on console, typically between 10-20 GBs, but this means that it’s still 70GBs+ and it still pushing that 100 GB-mark is not out of the question.
Luckily, Horizon Forbidden West can be pre-loaded the entire week before its release. Horizon Forbidden West’s release date is February 18, and the pre-loads will begin on February 11. Whether intending to play it on PS4 or PS5, that’s hopefully enough time to make sure there’s enough free space on either console. Horizon fans will also want to take the other games, if any of them catch their attention, into consideration.
PS5 SSDs are becoming easier to get hands on, at the very least. There are plenty to choose from, ranging from 500 GB to 2 TB options. One provider, Seagate, does have a PS5 SSD that is 4TB in size, but it costs double the amount of a disc-version PS5 at retail value. There is also, of course, the option of deleting games that have already been beaten, but as game sizes continue to balloon and supply/demand come into play down the road, it’ll be interesting to see how these prices change.
Either way, it’s not a long wait until Horizon Forbidden West releases, and fans will once again be taking on the role of Aloy. Her adventure takes her into the titular Forbidden West, and it’s bound to be epic from there.
