Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires English Demo Now Available

The English demo for Koei Tecmo’s upcoming strategic battle sim Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires can be played now on multiple platforms.

Gamers have been waiting a long time for Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, the Empires adaptation of Dynasty Warriors 9. Originally announced at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2020, Koei Tecmo revealed in early 2021 that the release of Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires would be delayed until later in the year. However, the game that released on Steam in December did not feature English support, and fans of the series who don’t speak Japanese will have to wait until February 15 to play the game in English.

Although the original announcement trailer for Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires didn’t divulge a lot about the title, information has been revealed by gamers playing the Japanese version. Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires removes the open world format of Dynasty Warriors 9 and replaces it with self-contained battlefields. Players can choose from a variety of roles like the tactician, ruler, or general, and can customize their officers with the game’s robust edit mode. Gameplay will center on castle sieges, and players can build siege weapons after capturing bases. Breaching the castle walls and conquering the army inside will result in expanded territory for the empire.

While English-speaking gamers have to wait another two weeks for the full release of Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, a free-to-play English demo released today for all platforms. In a press release, Koei Tecmo explained that the demo features castle siege battles, with players able to experience being both the invader and defender. Players can also try out the game’s in-depth character customization mode, and characters created in the demo can be transferred to the full game on the same platform.

Fans of the series hoping to take Dynasty Warriors on the go with them can also check out Dynasty Warriors: Overlords for mobile devices. Released in December 2021 and developed by SuperNova Game, the mobile title has been officially authorized by Koei Tecmo of Japan. The concept art and animations of the heroes were provided by the publisher, and SuperNova stayed true to the character models as designed. Dynasty Warriors: Overlords features the huge maps, massive armies, well-known game modes, and classic generals that are a hallmark of the series.

Players who really want to immerse themselves in the world of the Three Kingdoms may enjoy the Dynasty Warriors movie that released on Netflix in July 2021. Although it garnered somewhat mixed reviews, the film adaptation may still scratch that itch for fans of the series who missed it on release. Players will recognize many of the characters in the movie, such as Liu Bei, Zhang Fei, and Guan Yu, as well as the massive battle scenes that were recreated using CGI.

Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires launches on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 15, 2022.
