Animal Crossing: New Horizons Reveals New Years’ Celebration Items

As the end of the year approaches, many games are announcing or launching their New Years’ events and collectibles. Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t one to be left out, with a new teaser from Isabelle revealing some of the goodies players can pick up to throw a festive party of their own.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons follows the real-world clock, and as a result, typically has some kind of in-game event to celebrate major holidays like Christmas, Halloween, and of course, New Year’s Eve. While Christmas is still on the way, Isabelle is apparently excited for the new year, and gave players a look at what they can pick up from Nook’s Shopping.

In a tweet on the official Animal Crossing account, Isabelle announced that Animal Crossing‘s New Year’s items are now available through Nook Shopping. While none of the items are called out by name, several are visible in an attached image. A 2022 balloon arch, Kadomatsu, Olivier Salad, and New Year’s Noodles can all be seen in the player’s home, among other items.

According to Isabelle, items focused on New Year’s Eve will be available through Nook Shopping up until December 31. New Year’s Day items, on the other hand, can be acquired through January 5. Players who want to scoop up a bunch of items will likely wanted to get started soon, as there is a limit on how many items a player can acquire per day with the Nook Shopping catalog.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched when the COVID-19 pandemic was just beginning to pose a serious threat, leading to lockdowns and social isolation protocols all over the world. Since then, players have utilized it as a way to spend social time with family and friends who can’t otherwise be with them in real life. While many people have returned to some level of normalcy in their daily lives, for the immunocompromised, unvaccinated, or those otherwise wary of travel and social engagement during the current Omicron surge, New Horizons gives players at least one way to socialize virtually with loved ones and ring in the new year when they can’t be together physically.

While the game is approaching its second anniversary, players are still quite busy with the game, as the recent Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update added a slew of new content for players to enjoy. While there are no further planned DLC releases for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the year is likely to see numerous collectibles made available in the game for players to pick up as each holiday arrives.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
