One Star Trek fan with a knack for engineering managed to create a replica of the USS Enterprise in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Their impressive achievement is yet another testament to the incredible versatility of Tears of the Kingdom’s building mechanics.
The latest Zelda game extends its predecessor’s sandbox qualities in many ways, including Link’s new Ultrahand ability which allows players to join up to 21 components into a wide variety of weapons, vehicles, and other sorts of contraptions. The fandom has been doing just that ever since the game was released, using Tears of the Kingdom to build controllable birds, walking mechs, and rain sensors, among many other types of inventions.
That growing list of machinery now also includes a flying replica of the USS Enterprise from Star Trek, which was recently created by Reddit user BewareMyStingerTail. While the game’s 21-part limit naturally restricted the size of the creation, the overall aesthetic of this Tears of the Kingdom aircraft is still instantly recognizable as inspired by the iconic starship which first debuted in the original ’60s Star Trek television show.
Component-wise, the design incorporates eight guard rails from the Construct Factory and five Zonai Fans, some of which are joined together directly, while others connect to one another via some carefully positioned weapons such as Tears of the Kingdom’s Cobble Crushers. The phaser array from the original starship has been cleverly recreated with a single mirror that reflects a ray of light that looks reminiscent of the USS Enterprise’s own energy beam. A single Zonai Shock Emitter sits just below the deck, mounted on an upside-down Construct Head which infuses the weapon with auto-targeting capabilities.
The aircraft also features a Zonai Steering Stick allowing Link to pilot it. A brief video demonstration of the machine that its creator shared on Reddit confirms that this USS Enterprise replica is extremely agile and capable of long-distance flight. Both of those qualities largely stem from the railing that accounts for the majority of the ship’s body.
Namely, the Construct Factory guard rail is the currently lightest known component in the game, with its discovery ushering in a massive influx of some incredibly inventive aircraft like a Tears of the Kingdom recreation of history’s first successful plane. And though the Construct Factory doesn’t contain many such railings, plundering just one is enough to use as many of them as possible in construction, as the guard rail can be duplicated with the Autobuild ability, same as every other component in the game.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
