- The mech is capable of knocking out a Hinox, one of the game’s giant monsters, in just 40 seconds, showcasing its impressive power.
- While the mech’s design is not practical due to its limited mobility, it charges its battery faster than some other mechs and contraptions in the game.
An inventive Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player builds a melee-focused mech and uses it to decimate an unlucky Hinox. While other mechs built in Tears of the Kingdom are fitted with cannons and other projectile-based weapons, this mech is one of the first on record to be solely used as a punching device.
One of the most memorable mini-bosses from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the one-eyed behemoth known as the Hinox. These giant monsters were fun for players to take down as they had an obvious weakness to exploit and offered powerful weapons when defeated. In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Hinox is back, and taking one down can be just as fun. However, this time around, players get to fuse Zonai devices together to create traps and weapons to defeat these giant monsters faster than ever.
Reddit user The_Janeway_Effect took building a weapon to a whole new level and created a working mech in Tears of the Kingdom that’s capable of knocking a Hinox out cold. In the posted video, Link can be seen piloting the mech in the depths, approaching a gloom-infested Hinox. Link takes the first swing, using the mech to take out a huge chunk of the monster’s health bar. Link continues punching, with the Hinox barely fighting back, as it seems to not know what to do. After about 40 seconds of devastation, the Hinox is knocked out cold by an impressive punch.
According to The_Janeway_Effect, this is not the most practical mech found in Tears of the Kingdom, due to the arms making it tough to move around. Nevertheless, the design of the mech is impressive, to say the least, with its Yiga Clan metal spikes attached to each “fist.” The way the mech punches is done by Link jumping off and back on the Steering Stick, with the downside being the Stabilizer. Each time Link jumps off the Steering Stick, the Stabilizer turns off, making the mech fall to the side. This can make lining up punches extremely difficult, but as the video shows, it can still work out fine. Jumping off and on the Steering Stick also charges the battery faster than most mechs or large contraptions built in the game.
The design of this mech is similar to the Zonai body that Link builds for one of the sages in Tears of the Kingdom. The biggest difference here is that this mech is at least ten times more powerful, despite its impracticalities.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on Nintendo Switch.
