A Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player is saved from having to go toe-to-toe with a fully functioning, walking Guardian because of a glitch that sends the Guardian straight through the floor. The video shows Link in the underground section of Lomei Labyrinth Island off the coast of Northern Akkala where the Travel Medallion chest is if the player has The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s Master Trials DLC downloaded.
Guardians are tough enemies to handle in Breath of the Wild, even when Link is fully decked out in high level gear with good weapons and shields to help him out. This Breath of the Wild player, though, is still sitting on 12 hearts and looks to have some basic gear equipped, which would make the fight against the Guardian Stalker much more difficult.
Reddit user CoffeeCurious posts this video of Link riding atop a Guardian in the labyrinth until he takes a swing at the Guardian’s head, doing just 2 hit points of damage. However, the impact is enough to clip the Guardian through the labyrinth’s floor, but only partially. What then follows is straight out of a horror movie – the Guardian, still trying to target Link with its laser and get one last shot in, begins to sink further down until all that can be seen are its legs, hanging on for dear life. CoffeeCurious is playing in Master Mode, so the 2 hit points are healed, but then, the Guardian seems to tumble even further and then just blinks out of existence.
Guardians in Breath of the Wild have been known to glitch out every now and then, sometimes in terrifying ways, and sometimes in hilarious ways. This is, of course, a rare occurrence, and new players should not rely on glitches to save them from Guardians every time.
Some glitches in Breath of the Wild can be profitable for players, while others are just curious errors with collision or other such physical aspects of the game’s engine. This glitch in particular saved Link from having to battle the Guardian in the labyrinth and also risk the other Guardians waking up and joining the fray.
There is still a lot to learn about Guardians in the greater lore of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And now, with a sequel coming next year, there will be even more associated with it, even if Guardians have less of a role in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Either way, fans can look forward to more interesting interactions with the Guardians, hopefully ending as peacefully as this one did.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
