Xbox users hoping to enjoy some weekend gaming have been having a rough day, as several players are reporting massive issues with Xbox Live. What makes this partial outage so problematic is that the problems are not just impacting online connectivity, but preventing users from accessing digital content in general.
These Xbox Live issues started earlier today with streaming apps such as Netflix and Disney+, with the content on these applications being inaccessible for around four hours. While this issue was eventually solved, new problems came about shortly after. Due to unknown causes, users are currently unable to purchase digital games from the Xbox marketplace or start up sessions through Cloud Gaming. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Not only are Xbox users unable to buy new games or use Xbox’s Cloud Gaming services, but they are also unable to access their digital games. Even if players have a digital game fully downloaded or are attempting to load up an Xbox Game Pass title that they have already played for hours, they may be unable to launch the game at all. It goes without saying that this is a massive issue, though the official @XboxSupport Twitter account has confirmed that the problems are being investigated and that a fix is currently in the works.
While there was a brief period earlier today where @XboxSupport reported that the problems were solved, it seems like the fix was only temporary. Just three hours after the Tweet was posted saying that gamers could get back to enjoying their weekend and playing their favorite Xbox titles, a post mentioned that the same problems with launching and purchasing games had come back around. Cloud gaming sessions are still unable to be started as well. No ETA has been provided for a fix at the time of writing, so players will want to keep an eye on social media for updates.
On the Xbox Support website, fans can get a look at the current Xbox Live status and keep an eye on the issues. Currently, a majority of services are up and running, with multiplayer gaming, friends and social activity, and account and profile all listed as up and running. The sections marked as “limited” are Cloud gaming, Games and gaming, and Store and subscriptions. The issues in question apply to the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 consoles, so all gamers in the Xbox ecosystem could be impacted by the problems.
Hopefully, a fix for this Xbox Live problem comes sooner rather than later, with said solution being more permanent than the one from earlier today. With Xbox fans unable to play their digital games, stream from the Cloud, or add to their game collection, many are understandably frustrated.
