Upcoming Metal Gear Concert Will Feature Original Snake Eater Vocalist

Highlights

  • Konami confirms its upcoming Metal Gear concert featuring Cynthia Harrell, the iconic vocalist behind the Snake Eater theme.
  • Donna Burke and Cynthia Harrell, who have both sung for Metal Gear games, will perform live at the concert, celebrating the entire franchise and featuring songs from all Metal Gear Solid games.
  • The concert will take place in Tokyo on September 24, 2023, with tickets priced at approximately $68. The Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S is also in development.

Konami has confirmed that an upcoming concert event will feature the vocalist behind the iconic theme of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Cynthia Harrell. The Metal Gear franchise has been seeing a bit of a resurgence in 2023, when Konami announced both a remastered collection of the entire franchise and a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The newfound support for the series is also being celebrated through Metal Gear in Concert 2023, the first concert revolving around the series in three years. Two iconic vocalists of the series, Donna Burke and Cynthia Harrell, will be performing live at the event as well.

Donna Burke and Cynthia Harrell are names synonymous with the franchise because both singers have previously sung Metal Gear Solid theme songs. Donna Burke performed “Heavens Divide” and “Sins of the Father” for Peace Walker and The Phantom Pain, along with contributing to remixes of past themes. Cynthia Harrell, however, is the singer behind the iconic Snake Eater theme, which plays after the game’s opening act. Another notable credit is her performance of “I Am the Wind,” the ending theme of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Despite her retirement as a professional singer in 2019, she’ll be making a special appearance at this event.

This concert celebrates the entire Metal Gear franchise and will be live with a full-sized orchestra, having songs from the first Metal Gear Solid game on PlayStation 1 all the way to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Burke has been a regular participant of the concert since its inception in 2017, but this will mark the first time that Harrell will be singing “Snake Eater” live. Alongside a live orchestra, a video will also be present that plays iconic moments associated with the series and the relevant song.

Currently, this event will only be taking place in Japan in Shibuya, Tokyo, with the date slotted for September 24, 2023. A ticket to this event costs 9900 yen (or around $68 USD), with pre-sale tickets already available for purchase until August 20, 2023. On top of a plane ticket for Western fans, this might be a bit pricey, but the chance to hear the iconic Snake Eater theme song being sung live by its original singer would be worth it for some, especially since she’s been out of the public spotlight for a few years.

Konami also has the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater remake currently in development. It is being worked on by a combination of Konami’s own internal development team and Virtuos, which previously worked on ports of games like Final Fantasy 10 and had a helping hand in the PS5-exclusive Demon’s Souls remake. It promises to feature the same story and expansive environments that the original game had, beefed up with higher graphical fidelity.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
