Unofficial Oblivion Remake Skyblivion Reveals Four Hours of Gameplay Footage

A lengthy piece of footage from the upcoming Oblivion fan remake Skyblivion shows the mod in its current state being demonstrated by the dev team.

The hugely ambitious mod Skyblivion, which is an unofficial remake of Oblivion done in Skyrim, is still a couple of years away, but in the meantime, the developer has shown off a whopping four hours of gameplay footage from the project as it currently stands. Seeing as both TES4 and TES5 are considered by many to be the best Elder Scrolls games of the series, many have been hugely anticipating the arrival of this fan-made project, which aims to bring the former to newer audiences.

With the original game coming out nearly 17 years ago, it’s not surprising that there are tons of Oblivion mods out there which enhance the experience with graphical improvements, custom quests and characters, or some general quality-of-life tweaks. All of these help to keep the aged Bethesda RPG in the gaming limelight, even if it has been eclipsed by its 2011 successor. However, few mods are quite as lofty as this one that’s been in development for years, and while there’s still a long wait till release, fans can at least check out what the unofficial remake looks like so far.

The Skyblivion modding group has shared four hours of footage from the upcoming Oblivion project, giving a taste of what’s to come. It should be pointed out, and is in fact mentioned across the bottom of the video, that this is still a work in progress. As such, viewers will likely see some bugs or placeholders while the game is still being developed. The gameplay footage, which begins around the nine-minute mark, opens with a very familiar sight for fans of the official release, as the player can be seen outside the Imperial City Prison after the opening dungeon tutorial.

The mod is looking pretty great so far and there are still a couple of years to go yet, so things are only going to get better from here. For those who haven’t been keeping up, Skyblivion is being developed by volunteers and has been in the works since 2012. Upon release, the project will be free, but players will need to have Skyrim and Oblivion, plus the official mods, installed beforehand. It was recently announced in a trailer that Skyblivion will be launching in 2025.

Because it’s being built in Skyrim‘s Creation Engine, which some would say is not the best game engine in the world, it will give Oblivion a more modern facelift. So far, the team has done exceptional work, and it certainly looks like the fan remake won’t disappoint when it finally does release.

Skyblivion is currently in development and expected to launch in 2025.
