Uncharted Image Compares Video Game Sully and Nathan Drake to How They Look in the Movie

An image compares how Nathan Drake and Sully look in the Uncharted games to Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg from the new movie.

The Uncharted film adaptation is only a couple of months away from release, with Naughty Dog’s critically-acclaimed adventure games finally hitting the big screen. Given the track record for game to movie adaptations, some Uncharted fans are understandably skeptical of the movie, questioning whether the cinematic style of the games makes a film adaptation redundant and if the casting choices were correct. Whether or not the Uncharted movie is any good remains to be seen, but until it comes out, debate will continue to rage on about the film and its casting choices.

There are some who are happy with Tom Holland being cast as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg playing Sully, but others feel like they aren’t great fits for their respective roles. However, an image shared by Reddit user Swamp7hing compares how the video game versions of the characters look compared to the actors, and it shows that they aren’t as far off as some people may think.

When someone thinks of the character Nathan Drake, they often think of the older version that is prominently featured in the games. And when they think of Sully, they think of an aged, grey-haired treasure hunter. However, it’s clear that Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg are playing younger versions of the characters, and they don’t look that different from the younger versions of the characters as seen in the video games.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception has some flashback sequences that show much younger versions of Nathan Drake and Sully, and it seems that these are the versions of the characters that the filmmakers are taking inspiration from in the new movie. And if there was still any doubt, their clothes even match up.

Uncharted 3 appears to be a major inspiration for the Uncharted movie in general, as there are several clips from the trailer that look similar to scenes from that game. At some point Tom Holland is going to wear clothes that look very similar to the outfit Drake has on during the present-day events of Uncharted 3, and there is a cargo plane sequence that looks like it was pulled straight from the video game.

If the Uncharted movie is successful and Sony decides to make sequels, it will be interesting to see if future films take inspiration from other entries in the franchise. Maybe an Uncharted sequel will take its cues from the first game, or maybe even Uncharted 2: Among Thieves instead. Eventually the films may even get to the point of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which could cap off the film franchise’s story in a similar way to how the games ended. This is all just speculation, though, and fans will have to wait and see how the first movie turns out before they start worrying about sequels.

Uncharted premieres February 18, 2022.
