Tropico 6 Getting Next Gen Upgrade

The Tropico franchise’s El Presidente – “El Prez” to his many fans – is getting a shiny new upgrade next year. Developer Limbic Entertainment and publisher Kalypso Media took to Twitter to announce an upcoming upgrade to Tropico 6, the latest title in the combination resource management and political simulation series.

Originally releasing in 2019 for PC, Tropico 6 sees players take control of El Presidente as he assumes leadership of Tropico, a fictional island nation located in the Caribbean. Similar to previous games in the franchise, players were tasked with guiding Tropico through four eras: Colonial, World Wars, Cold War, and Modern. It expanded on previous games by allowing players to construct additional islands, turning Tropico into an archipelago. Tropico 6 later saw releases for additional platforms including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

According to a tweet from El Presidente’s very own Twitter account, an upgraded version of Tropico 6 will be releasing on March 31, 2022 for all next-generation consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The next-gen version will re-imagine the game in 4K resolution, allowing players to experience El Prez and his tropical paradise in higher quality than ever before. The version will feature all content present in the initial console release of Tropico 6, including both story and sandbox mode, the ability to customize El Presidente’s palace, the choice to play as a male El Presidente or female La Presidenta, and several free updates such as observation towers. It will also come bundled with two DLC packs: The Llama of Wall Street and the El Prez Pack. It does not come with the other previously released DLC, including the most recent Lobbyistico pack.

Additionally, the re-release of Tropico 6 will feature new content, including an upgraded research system that will allow players to adjust their political policies as time goes on. They will also be able to send out agents to steal treasures and documents that they can use to decorate their Presidential Palace, which may also help them earn money and approval for their regime more quickly. Finally, the next-gen release will include multiplayer support for up to four players at once.

Although Tropico 6 received mixed reviews from critics, and did not win any of the awards for which it was nominated, it quickly became the best-selling game in the Tropico franchise, generating over 50% more revenue than Tropico 5. The archipelago system received praise, and fans of the series are certainly looking forward to seeing the multiple islands in 4K resolution next year.

While series fans may have a few more months to wait before they can enjoy the next-gen version of Tropico 6, there is plenty to do in the currently-released versions of the game. At the moment, a limited-time Christmas-themed event is ongoing in which players can decorate their house for the season and dress up El Presidente as Santa Claus or La Presidenta as an elf. For a limited time only, Xbox Live Gold 5 subscribers can also experience previous title Tropico 5 for free.

Tropico 6 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One. It will release for PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 31, 2022.
