Super Smash Bros. Brawl Mod Adds Kirby’s Bandana Waddle Dee

A modder of Super Smash Bros. Brawl shows off a playable version of Bandana Waddle Dee from the Kirby series, complete with a reveal trailer.

While Super Smash Bros. Brawl isn’t considered the greatest game in the series by the competitive fighting game community, the game still has an active modding community even nearly 15 years after its original release. This is evident with Brawl‘s hacking scene adding a variety of content to the game, whether it be new costumes, stages, characters, music, or even overhauling the game’s mechanics to be more competitive. Nothing exemplifies the community’s efforts more than the overhaul mod known as Project M.

Project M started back in 2009 as a Super Smash Bros. Brawl mod that would bring the game up to a competitive environment in the same vein as Super Smash Bros. Melee. Development on Project M sadly had to be stopped due to a variety of reasons, but Project M lives on through other modders. More specifically, Project+ is a community driven patch that aims to continue off where the legacy version did, adding in a bunch of new characters and fixing issues that were left to the wayside.

One of these is the fan-favorite Kirby series mainstay, Bandana Waddle Dee, who made his first playable appearance in Kirby’s Return to Dreamland on the Wii. Not only does he stand out thanks to his stylish blue bandana, but also his trusty spear, which gives him a completely unique moveset. Many fans thought that his spear would make him a unique playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series. While he didn’t make it into the latest game, this impressive mod by King Bob Gaming shows off how the little guy works in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Bandana Waddle Dee’s modded addition came with an animated trailer in the same vein as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s reveal trailers, where Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede are seen taking on various possessed warriors before being overwhelmed. Bandana Waddle Dee then saves the trio, thanks to some well-aimed spears.

This mod of Bandana Waddle Dee borrows elements from his spear moveset from Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, where he can it in the air or use it as a staff to fend off his enemies. He also uses a few elements of other Kirby enemies, such as utilizing the Beam Copy Ability with Waddle Doo’s wand, or even using a Parasol like the Parasol Waddle Dee enemies. This mod is available to download right now, with the Super Smash Bros. Brawl community praising the mod for its high quality, as well as the impressive animated trailer that captured the dynamics of all four Kirby characters.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.
