Summer Game Fest 2022 Confirms Date, IMAX Screenings

Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley confirms the date this year’s event will take place along with an IMAX collaboration.

E3 2022 is canceled, but it doesn’t mean the gaming industry isn’t going to have all kinds of reveals and special events this summer. In fact, Game Awards host Geoff Keighley is bringing back Summer Game Fest as a way for developers and publishers to showcase their upcoming games and make big announcements. Summer Game Fest 2022 now has a date, and it will also be viewable in IMAX.

Geoff Keighley confirmed today that Summer Game Fest 2022 will take place on Thursday, June 9 at 11am PT, and it will be screened in select IMAX theaters for “full-scale immersion.” Not only that, but it was also confirmed that The Game Awards 2022 will air in IMAX this December as well. Gamers will still be able to watch both events from the comfort of their homes, but those who want a more impressive presentation can watch them in IMAX.

Summer Game Fest 2022 Date and Time

  • Thursday, June 9 at 11am PT

The video accompanying the IMAX announcement for Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards includes a sizzle reel of various games, but fans shouldn’t read too much into it. Some of the games shown in the reel are FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, which famously had its big gameplay reveal at last year’s Summer Game Fest, as well Gotham Knights, but that doesn’t mean any of these games will actually have an appearance at either event.

That being said, one has to imagine that Elden Ring fans will be paying close attention to Summer Game Fest this year. There have been consistent rumors that an Elden Ring DLC expansion is being planned, with fans thinking they’ve found evidence of it in the game itself. Elden Ring has unused coliseums in certain spots around its open world, and some fans have theorized that they could be part of a future expansion.

Since the Elden Ring gameplay reveal took place at last year’s Summer Game Fest and since the game is being used to promote the event’s IMAX debut, one would think there is a possibility a DLC reveal could happen. However, that’s just speculation at this time, and it’s better for fans to keep their expectations in check.

There’s no telling really if Elden Ring will have any kind of presence at Summer Game Fest, but what fans can count on are new game reveals, world premiere trailers, and all kinds of other industry-shaking announcements. Those interested will want to tune in come Thursday, June 9 at 11am PT.
