Strange Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Bug Makes Players Throw Guns Instead of Grenades

While grenades and guns have traditionally served two distinctly different purposes in Call of Duty games, a strange new glitch captured on video by a Call of Duty: Warzone 2 player shows the two weapon types blending together in a bizarre manner. Already used to experiencing all manner of glitches in Raven Software’s free-to-play shooter, players have recently had to contend with hackers using one-shot sniper rifles in Warzone 2.

Raven Software and Infinity Ward’s Battle Royale sequel Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has faced an uphill battle with many gamers ever since the title was first announced. Thanks in part to the massive popularity of the first Call of Duty: Warzone, many players were unhappy to see a sequel being released only two years later. Exasperated gamers voiced complaints about everything from the removal of the popular Caldera map to the addition of a backpack system to the drastically reduced TTK in Warzone 2 when compared to the first game. While at least some of these issues have been addressed with post-release patches, Warzone 2 continues to be plagued by numerous technical problems that have turned some players away.

In a bizarre new clip shared on r/CODWarzone, Redditor IsDinosaur shows their character attempting to toss a snapshot grenade during a duel in Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s gulag only to have an RPK fly forth from their hands instead. The unusual glitch happens so quickly that it’s hard to see on a first viewing so IsDinosaur hopefully slows down the clip and zooms in, clearly showing a Soviet submachine gun ungracefully flipping through the air in place of the expected grenade. Unfortunately, the clip ends before showing whether the unusual snapshot grenade stand-in at least goes off as expected.

Fans of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 expressed a mix of amusement and annoyance at the unusual glitch. Responding to one comment, IsDinosaur joked “New patch notes; all guns now have ranged melee attack.” Other users responding to the clip were confused at how such a bug could occur in the first place, leading one Redditor to hypothesize that the RPK could be the first asset loaded by the game and that it is just failing to swap out properly with a grenade texture. One comment noted that, while this bug was fairly harmless, it could be seen as yet another example of what looks to some like a haphazard development process.

Although this unusual switcheroo makes for funny viewing, it also highlights just how prevalent bugs and glitches still are in Raven Software’s free-to-play shooter. At least it’s not as embarrassing as when Call of Duty: Warzone 2’s developers forgot how bullets work.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
