Some players are having issues installing their physical copies of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 onto their PS5. Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released on October 20 and is the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and the 2020 spin-off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, players assume the roles of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they traverse New York City trying to stop Kraven the Hunter from turning the Big Apple into a concrete hunting ground. Players seem to have a lot to look forward to when they boot up Insomniac’s latest game as Spider-Man 2 is picking up a lot of praise from reviewers. However, not everyone is enjoying the launch day experience.
The Reddit user Okrym_ has explained that their disc version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t install on their PlayStation 5 and keeps getting stuck when the progress bar hits 36%. Many commenters responding to the post are also detailing similar installation issues, that the disc partway installs onto the console before seemingly stopping for no reason. It seems that players responding to the post on the r/Spiderman subreddit are from different countries, with reports of the issue being spread across North America and Europe.
While Insomniac Games have tweeted a message to report any unusual bugs or glitches found within their latest adventure, at the time of writing, it has yet to comment on the specific issues raised. It does seem that the issue is only affecting a small number of players installing from a disc, however, with Spider-Man 2 launching on a busy weekend for gamers, the player count is set to increase over the next few days as fewer people make the trip to work.
Sony and Insomniac will be hoping that the installation issue is limited only to a small player base as they will be working to promote the web-slinger over the looming holiday season. Reports have begun to emerge that the new PS5 Slim consoles will be bundled together with Spider-Man 2 when it is released in a few weeks’ time. These reports come from a reliable leaker called billbil-kun but are currently unconfirmed by Sony.
Along with any future patches, Insomniac has confirmed a New Game + mode for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is on the way. The community manager at the developer, James Stevenson, has stated that a New Game+ and a mission replay option are being worked on at Insomniac and will arrive later down the line.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is available now on PS5.
