Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot players are experiencing problems upgrading their PS4 copy to the newly released PS5 version this week. Xbox One players experienced similar technical issues involving upgrades for their copy of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, causing frustration during an upgrade process that’s normally quick and simple for many other titles.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot made its PS5 and Xbox Series X|S debut on January 13, allowing players to enjoy the latest Dragon Ball game with graphical improvements and 60 frames-per-second support. Additionally, the latest consoles enable faster load times while players progress through Goku’s storied journey. Free upgrades are available for the existing PS4 and Xbox One versions, so players do not have to buy another copy of the game. However, technical issues are currently plaguing the free upgrade path for many users. The next-gen upgrade for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on Xbox Series X|S was swiftly delayed, and the PS4 to PS5 upgrade path is facing major problems as well.
Reddit user u/Moser319 uploaded an image of his PlayStation Support ticket, confirming that PlayStation is looking into issues regarding the free Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot PS5 upgrade. Some users have already reported the issue to PlayStation, and the support representative claims that all troubleshooting steps were performed on their end. However, PlayStation Support is escalating the reported issues for review since many more reports are being made, implying that the issue may be more widespread than initially anticipated. Bandai Namco has yet to officially respond to the issues surrounding the Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot PS5 upgrade.
Bandai Namco recently confirmed that their investigation discovered an issue that completely blocks Xbox Series X|S users from upgrading and playing Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. As a result, free upgrades and Season Pass 2 content for Xbox has been delayed until further notice. The PS5 version seems to be encountering a similar issue, with some users claiming the PS5 upgrade results in purchase errors or incompatibility with a disk copy. On the other hand, a portion of players have been able to successfully upgrade their PS4 copy and play the newest Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot content without issue.
Bandai Namco needs to address the Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot PS5 upgrade issue in an official capacity since PlayStation is already doing so within its own support team. These technical issues have resulted in many PS4 and Xbox One owners being unable to play the game on their new PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Transparent communication from developers to the community is vital when facing technical problems of this magnitude.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s newest content features Bardock, the father of Goku. Season Pass 2 introduces the Bardock – Alone Against Fate DLC, allowing players to experience the warrior’s plight against Frieza’s forces once more. Unfortunately, the Bardock DLC is facing major performance issues, which Bandai Namco will also hopefully address in a timely manner.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
