Rumor: Nvidia Might Launch a Scorching 900W RTX 4090 Ti

The next era of graphics card technology is due out this year and there’s speculation that Nvidia could release a rather blistering GPU at some point.

With Intel just entering the industry, the world of graphics cards is becoming more and more competitive, though with potentially extra choice for the consumer once people can actually get hold of any of it. However, team blue still has to contend with the likes of Nvidia, which is generally considered the front-runner in the market. There’s also the fact that AMD just launched its budget RX 6400 card, not to mention that the next generation is looming ahead. However, there have been rumors that team green may actually be unleashing a piping hot GPU in the future.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

That’s according to a recent report from Videocardz, which references a tweet from known leaker kopite7kimi. The speculation states that, as part of the next generation of graphics cards, Nvidia may release an RTX 4090 Ti that uses a whopping 900W of power. The AD102 may not actually become a product, the tweet goes on to say, but if it does, it could pack a staggering 48 GB of GDDR6X and use two 16-pin connectors.

If it does come to fruition and has a TDP that the leaker is suggesting, then that would be one stifling graphics card for anyone to have in their machine. Given that additional rumors not long ago said that a possible Nvidia RTX 4090 could require 600W of power, the Ti equivalent, if such a thing does exist, would be quite the jump up. For many, this would likely be too risky unless set-ups have ample cooling systems, including air conditioning or a fan to assist. However, it should be stated that these are just speculations and there’s been no official word about any RTX 4090 Ti, and certainly not one that has a TDP of 900W.

Alongside this, it’s possible that Nvidia may already be testing its RTX 40-series in the run-up to the next GPU era, which should be kick-starting towards the latter parts of this year. AMD has also mentioned its RDNA 3 architecture, which should also be coming out at the end of 2022. So the pressure is on for both rivals to get ahead of the game.

However, there’s also team blue to contend with. Intel launches its Arc desktop graphics card this summer, after some supposed delays, so Nvidia and AMD will have a new competitor in the race for GPU supremacy. However, it does seem that the CPU giant is lagging behind the other two who are already preparing for the next generation. So maybe the long-standing powerhouses of the industry have nothing to fear.
