Rumor: Fortnite Could Be Adding ‘Tactical Sprint’ Feature

According to a well-known Fortnite leaker and dataminer, the game could be adding a new screen-shaking ‘Tactical Sprint’ mechanic in a future update.

Fortnite is one of the most popular games out there at the moment, and while much of this comes from its status as the king of collaborations and crossovers, the title still has some solid mechanics behind it. Just as Fortnite is constantly adding new crossover skins, it’s also constantly tweaking existing gameplay features and adding new ones. Now, there’s a rumor that the game could be adding a new “Tactical Sprint” mechanic in the future.

HYPEX, a well-known Fortnite leaker and dataminer, reported on the rumor and stated that the Tactical Sprint mechanic was already in development. This isn’t the first time HYPEX has reported on a leak about a new Fortnite mechanic–they also discussed the game’s then in-progress Slide mechanic, which was recently implemented.

According to HYPEX’s recent post on Twitter, the Tactical Sprint mechanic will have at least one other thing in common with the Slide mechanic. When players activate the mechanic, the camera will reportedly shake just like it does when Fortnite players are sliding. Additionally, it appears that the Tactical Sprint will also be a form of quick transit that can be used to damage foes. Hopefully, this mechanic will be easier to use on level ground than the Slide is.

Some gamers may notice a similarity between Fortnite‘s proposed new feature and an existing feature in Call of Duty: Warzone. While this may suggest that Epic Games is taking some nods from other battle royale titles, it should be noted that Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite are very different types of games. It’s possible that the Tactical Sprint mechanic Fortnite has in development will have some significant differences from the one that Call of Duty: Warzone players use to race around the map during matches.

As of writing, it appears that many fans have mixed opinions about the possibility of Fortnite adding another new gameplay feature. Several users replied to HYPEX’s tweet by noting the similarity to Call of Duty: Warzone‘s Tactical Sprint mechanics. One user went so far as to ask if they were the only Fortnite player who disliked the practice of Epic Games changing the whole title by adding new mechanics. However, a second user replied by stating that Fortnite seemed to be more fun with the new additions and one simply had to adjust to the updates. A third user made a list of other games that feature the camera shaking while sprinting to prove that Call of Duty didn’t have a monopoly on the concept.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
