Rockstar Offering Free Game to Anyone Who Buys GTA Trilogy on PC

By now, the majority of the video game community is aware of the disaster that was the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, a remaster of the classic PS2-era GTA games that helped turn developer Rockstar into one of the biggest studios in the world. Sadly, with bugs-a-plenty and a visual upgrade that has left fans disappointed, it’s not surprising that it’s gone down as one of the most disappointing games of 2021. However, the developer is seemingly trying to mend the damage that’s been left in the Definitive Edition’s wake, which includes a holiday giveaway on PC.

According to an article on the Rockstar Games website, those who purchase the Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster on PC between now and the end of January 6, 2022, will be entitled to a free game, or in-game money add-on, from the company’s own store. On top of that, those who buy the title will also receive $10 off another product that’s priced at $15 or more, just to sweeten the deal. It’s worth reiterating at this point that the offer is not open to anyone who purchases the game on console or through third-party stores.

In terms of what games players will be able to get for free, the article lists both GTA 5: Premium Edition and GTA 4: Complete Edition, as well as either Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire, or Bully: Scholarship Edition. For those who don’t want an extra game, or already have the ones listed, there’s the option to choose a Shark Cash Card for GTA Online, or 55 gold bars for Red Dead Online, which add extra currency to their respective games. It’s surprising that Rockstar isn’t offering either of the Read Dead Redemption games, but the ones the company is offering may entice PC gamers to get their hands on GTA Trilogy.

At the start of the month, Rockstar also made the classic GTA games available again for PC, which meant purchases of the remaster would yield free digital copies of the original trilogy of games released for the PlayStation 2. However, it didn’t specify whether console players would be getting anything similar.

Alongside all this, patches are being rolled out for GTA Trilogy, which are bringing large fixes to some of the biggest issues, including that awful rain affect that was giving some players headaches. With this free offer, and the promise of more updates coming, it seems Rockstar is desperately trying to win back the fan base that has been burnt by the awful way the remaster was handled by Grove Street Games.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.
