Red Dead Redemption 2 Headshots Can Be Even More Brutal Than Usual

A player of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 has recently shared with fellow fans just how brutal headshots can be in the action-adventure game. Given that the Red Dead Redemption 2 development team aimed to give players a truly immersive experience in a fictional world, it is not surprising for fans to witness almost true-to-life situations, no matter how gruesome they can be.

This is not the first time that the game’s fans have shared what they have experienced in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Despite being launched almost five years ago, the player base seems to be continuously engaged with fellow fans online. Forums are often filled with community members sharing theories, in-game images and footage, and even original artwork of their favorite Red Dead Redemption 2 characters. Though much of the gameplay content shared online are fun experiences, there are still moments in the game, like the brutality of being shot by a gun, that are not as lighthearted.

A Reddit user shared just how brutal headshots can be in Red Dead Redemption 2. In their uploaded footage, the player can be seen shooting a female NPC almost point-blank on the head. This causes a steady stream of blood to gush out of the NPC’s wound, but this does not kill them. Instead, the woman is still able to stand up to try and get away from the situation, all the while bleeding out from their head wound. At the end of the footage, the NPC falls to the ground, continuing to flop around but still not dying. The player then decides to put the character out of their misery and shoots them several times to kill them.

Most of the comments on the Reddit thread seemed to show that players actually feel bad about having to kill NPCs in Red Dead Redemption 2, especially if they are innocent or just witnesses to their character’s crimes. Some fans pointed out that this specific experience actually trained them to keep double-tapping when shooting, just to make sure that NPCs do not have to suffer unnecessarily, even though they are just fictional characters. Others also pointed out that they did not know that headshots could actually cause characters to bleed out as seen in the video.

Despite the footage being extremely brutal, it just goes to show how detailed and immersive Red Dead Redemption 2 still is after all these years. Hopefully fans will take these experiences positively and expect that future projects from Rockstar Games will have the same kind of realism as well.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
