Pokimane Criticized for Sharing Meme About Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard Trial

Pokimane takes to Twitter between livestream reactions to the lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard with an unflattering meme of the actress.

Many popular Twitch streamers have turned to the ongoing lawsuit between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard for some reliable content, and that’s no different with Imane “Pokimane” Anys. In response to one of the images shared as evidence in court during the Depp vs. Heard case between Twitch streams, Pokimane is under fire for having a humorous response.

Pokimane has been livestreaming her reactions to the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard case on Twitch since May 3, a day in which Pokimane joked that the actress “googled how to look sad,” and her hot takes continue. Because the lawsuit between the two celebrities proceeds, it’s likely that Pokimane will focus on this content until it concludes, regardless of the outcome and despite the negative response she has received. Although many Pokimane fans are in on the joke with the popular Twitch streamer, many others have criticized her response to the allegations and evidence being presented by Amber Heard’s team in court.

One of the images shown recently during the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard lawsuit showed the actress’ face after the actor who played Jack Sparrow allegedly threw a phone at it. Although there is a noticeable red area on Amber Heard’s face in the photo, Pokimane shared a meme inspired by The Office featuring the character Pam Beesly that points out how lighting can alter how things appear. The meme shows one photo of Heard that’s clearly darker than the image next to it, which is bright enough to show the different tones on Heard’s face, with The Office character claiming both images are the same.

While each day of testimony shows more people sympathizing with both celebrities involved, Pokimane illustrated her feelings that Heard isn’t being entirely truthful, and a lot of Twitter users aren’t okay with it. Perhaps because of the immediate backlash to sharing the meme, Pokimane has removed it from her page, while many retweets of it still exist, and some fans wish to remind her that the lawsuit is about Amber Heard’s accusations of domestic abuse at the hands of Johnny Depp. Although no verdict has yet to be determined, Johnny Depp’s lawyers showed more images similar to the one Pokimane joked about prior to the backlash.

Pokimane isn’t the only Twitch personality reacting to the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard lawsuit, as Asmongold, xQc, and HasanAbi have also been trying to keep up with the courtroom antics. It will be interesting to see how this situation with Pokimane unfolds as she has yet to make a statement about her thoughts on the matter after the overwhelming response from upset fans.
