Pokemon Legends: Arceus is Getting an Event Piplup With Roost

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is getting an event in February for players to get an exclusive Piplup with the move Roost, a popular competitive choice.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is just a little over a week from its official worldwide release, and many players are excited to play a new Pokemon game that is also very different from mainline titles in many ways. The fact that Pokemon Legends: Arceus is delving more into strategy is a fantastic change for the entire series, as it could mean that mainline releases, starting with Generation 9 games, could build on this revolutionary turn-based combat where actions influence speed and power. This is something that the community has been asking for over the years, considering that in-game battles, outside the competitive scene, can feel a bit too easy and underwhelming.

However, there are also rumors about Pokemon Legends: Arceus trimming its move pool down by a lot, meaning that players will have greater control over their choices and optimization at the cost of diversity. With breeding and held items seemingly being removed from Pokemon Legends: Arceus, moves are more important than ever, and having the right combinations of Pokemon types or movesets can make all the difference – even if this is mainly a single-player game.

However, compatibility with Pokemon Home will seemingly come further down the line, and even though the Pokemon in the game lack abilities, they will have them when transferred over to Pokemon Sword and Shield, for example. As such, it’s all the more noteworthy that Pokemon Legends: Arceus will have an event where players can obtain a Piplup with a very peculiar moveset, which includes Roost. Roost is a flying move that is very popular in the competitive community, with Pokemon like Zapdos often sporting it in tournaments. Furthermore, the Piplup evolution line has never had access to Roost, which makes this Pokemon unique and valuable.

Roost will also be a valuable addition when it comes to Pokemon Legends: Arceus, which is rumored to be a rather difficult game where it’s not uncommon for players and Trainers alike to faint while exploring the region of Hisui. The event distribution will also affect Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which are getting a different version of Piplup with a more regular moveset – but still a nice treat. The event seems to be exclusive to Japan, but it’s not unlikely that the same thing will happen worldwide at a later date.

Recently, a Pokemon leaker revealed the roster for Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and this information – alongside the fact that new moves are available and many older ones didn’t make the cut – can help Trainers make thorough decisions with their teams. Still, even if the event-exclusive Piplup with Roost isn’t released worldwide, fans of the little penguin will still be able to catch it in the wild.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus releases for Nintendo Switch on January 28.
