Pokemon GO Reveals Details of Electrifying January Event

Pokemon GO’s final event for January brings the energy of Electric-type Pokemon and a recharged Team GO Rocket Takeover with new Shadow Pokemon.

Pokemon GO‘s last event for January will be the Crackling Voltage event. This upcoming event in Pokemon GO will feature Electric-type Pokemon, introduce new shiny Pokemon, and usher in another Team GO Rocket Takeover event with a new Legendary Pokemon for Giovanni.

January 2023 has seen many events happening in Pokemon GO which has been keeping trainers busy all month. In the midst of wishing for good luck Pokemon encounters during the Lunar New Year event, the details for the event to wrap up the month of January are now being revealed. The Crackling Voltage event beginning soon will see more appearances of Electric-type Pokemon as well as increased Team GO Rocket activity in the event’s latter half.

Starting on January 27 at 10 AM local time, wild Pokemon encounters during the Crackling Voltage event will begin spawning in Pokemon GO. These Pokemon will include Ekans, Magnemite, Grimer, Electrike, Stunky, Blitzle, Ferroseed, Helioptile, and Grubbin. Lucky trainers may encounter rare spawns of Meltan and Dedenne in the wild. Most of these Pokemon will have a chance to be shiny except for Stunky and Grubbin. Helioptile is a new shiny being introduced but is not the only Pokemon with a shiny debut during the event. Other Electric-type Pokemon like Hisuian Voltorb, Plusle Minun, and more can also be encountered as Field Research Rewards.

Right before the Crackling Voltage event begins, Tapu Koko, The Land God Pokemon, returns to 5-star raids starting on January 25. For the first time in Pokemon GO, lucky trainers may have a chance at obtaining their own shiny Tapu Koko. Trainers will have limited opportunities to hunt for shiny Tapu Koko during the event as Registeel will rotate into 5-star raids, starting February 1. Registeel’s arrival will be the precursor to the Team GO Rocket Takeover and the chance at a new Shadow Pokemon. Mega Areotactyl will be featured in Mega Raids until February 1 and will be replaced by Mega Gengar for the remainder of Crackling Voltage. 7K egg event Pokemon will include Alolan Sandsgrew, Helioptile, Stunfisk, and Galarian Stunfisk, Blitzle, Skarmory, and Dedenne.

Shadow Registeel will be Giovanni’s Legendary Pokemon during this Team GO Rocket Takeover. Trainers that manage to defeat Giovanni will then have the chance to catch Shadow Registeel and replace the Charged Move Frustration with a more useful move, including Zap Cannon which has been introduced to Registeel’s move pool with its latest return to 5-star raids. Trainers will have until the end of the Crackling Voltage event on February 5 to get Frustration off of their Shadow Registeel and other favored Shadow Pokemon. There will also be a Special Research Story with the end reward of a Super Rocket Radar for additional chances of finding Giovanni and his Shadow Registeel. This must be completed by the end of the Season of Mythical Wishes.

Pokemon GO is out now on Android and iOS devices.
