Pokemon GO Mountains of Power Event Detailed

Niantic reveals the details and the start and end times for the next chapter in the Season of Heritage in Pokemon GO.

With the holiday season now firmly in the past, Niantic is moving forward with its next chapter in the Season of Heritage campaign. The next season seems to be focusing on the Steel and Rock types according to the latest blog post on the Pokemon GO website.

The story for the Season of Heritage has Team Mystic Leader Spark at the forefront, as he is led to believe that the key to solving the mysterious gate’s second mechanism requires Steel and Rock Type Pokemon. The unlocking of the door’s first Mechanism gave players the Dragonspiral Descent event and the debut of Druddigon. This new in-game activity has been named The “Mountains of Power.”

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The “Mountains of Power” event will begin on Friday, January 7th at 10 AM local time and end on Thursday, January 13th at 8 PM local time. The Pokemon that will spawn more frequently during this event will be Zubat, Geodude, Slugma, Barboach, Machop, and Nosepass. Rarer Pokemon like Onix and Ferroseed will have increased spawn rates during the event. The shiny variants for all of the aforementioned Pokemon will also be available for lucky trainers.

Season of Heritage

Along with the increased spawns for the Pokemon listed above, there will be additional incentives during the event. Buddy Pokemon will gain hearts in half the distance required. Great for trainers still looking to cut into the requirements to evolve Sylveon or any other Pokemon that needs friendship to evolve. Special Time Research tasks will also be given from PokeStops during the event. Some Research Task Rewards will have Mawile and Beldum as rewards and a chance to claim their shinies. The Field Research Tasks will also have Alolan Geodude and Slugma and the chance to claim their shinies mixed in as well.

When it comes to Raids, Alolan Geodude, Beldum, Bronzor, Onix and their shinies will feature in 1-Star raids. Medicham, Absol and its shiny, Ursuring, and Donphan will be in 3-Star Raids. Heatran and the possibility of finding its shiny will be in 5-Star raids for the week of the event. Mega-Aerodactyl will also make its return in the Mega-Raid eggs for the week.

All of the offerings seem fine for the event’s theme and more focus on the advertised Types for this event than the Druddigon event, outside of Zubat. Shiny Mawile, Absol, Beldum, and Nosepass are some community favorite shinies. If the Druddigon event was a precursor of what could happen next, maybe there will be a new Pokemon revealed at the end of this event.

Pokemon GO is now available on Android and iOS devices.
