Although the overwhelming popularity of Pokemon has never really faded away since its introduction in the 1990s, hype is currently at a high. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet‘s release around the corner, fans are more than ready to adopt a new starter Pokemon and hit the road to catch ’em all.
Nintendo, Game Freak, and The Pokemon Company have only given fans a tease of what they can expect from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but they did include the introduction of the game’s three new starters: Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito. While a lot has yet to be revealed about them, many have already fallen in love with one, and with that appreciation, fanart inevitably follows.
This latest fan work comes from Redditor niteowlnarld, who shared a charming animation of a Quaxly with fellow fans. The animation shows Quaxly bobbling from side to side, in a wide waddle that one might expect from a small duck. As it walks, its bouffant fluff also shifts from side to side. It’s a nice detail, especially since so many have already compared Quaxly to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure‘s Josuke, who’s partially known for his fondness for his own hairstyle.
Fans in the comments are very happy about the animation, sharing their appreciation with the artist for their hard work. With months left to go until the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and with no indications as to when players might learn more about the game, projects like these help to keep fans entertained and excited until the real thing comes along.
Of course, not all fans of the new starters are without worries. Some have expressed concern that the adorable trio of starters will eventually become bipedal, which was a grievance with prior starter Litten from Pokemon Sun and Moon. Another worry is that the Fire-type Pokemon will eventually be crossed with Fighting-type. While type hybrids have certain perks in some Pokemon battles, there’s a lot to be said for single-type Pokemon, too. It ultimately breaks down to the player’s strategy and how they choose to play.
Whatever the future holds for Quaxly and its fellow Pokemon starters, fans can usually agree that the three are quite cute. With any luck, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will see the return of the abilities to play, feed, and pet the player’s Pokemon, so fans get an opportunity to fully appreciate the starters in their initial forms before they evolve into something bigger and tougher.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is set to release in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
