Overwatch Releases New Winter Wonderland Art for Christmas

Blizzard shares a special holiday message and a new piece of Overwatch Christmas art with some of fans’ favorite heroes celebrating.

It’s Christmas Day and Blizzard is celebrating, much like fans of Overwatch across the world. Christmas is celebrated in Overwatch in many different ways, whether it’s with holiday-themed skins or the Winter Wonderland in-game event bringing back Yeti Hunt and Snowball game modes. To punctuate the holiday and send a message of Christmas cheer, Blizzard has also shared a new piece of official Overwatch art on social media. The art features several Overwatch heroes celebrating together.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The message shared by Blizzard via the official Overwatch Twitter account reads, “Happy holidays from all of us on the Overwatch team,” with both a Christmas tree and heart emoji. Accompanying the message is a new piece of official art for Overwatch to celebrate Christmas and the holidays. It features D.Va in her new Sleighing D.Va Legendary holiday skin giving out gifts to several other Overwatch heroes with an appropriately Christmas-y background to the image.

In addition to Sleighing D.Va, there are several other fan-favorite Overwatch characters in the art. Snowboarder Baptiste is behind D.Va, standing next to her mech, while Wooltide Tracer is receiving a gift from D.Va herself. Behind Tracer is a trio of other Overwatch characters, each sporting their new Winter Wonderland skins, too. There’s Snowman Wrecking Ball in full Santa regalia, Peppermint Bark Brigitte placing an ornament on the Christmas tree, all with the help of Orisa in her new Reindeer Legendary skin.

While there aren’t any other Overwatch heroes to be found in the image, there are a number of hidden Easter eggs referencing missing friends. For example, a trio of ornaments on the tree reference Penguin Mei, Toybot Zenyatta, and Soldier 76’s Alpine skin. Hidden under the tree are a pair of additional references, with one present featuring Solider 76 wrapping paper and a Hearthstone card sitting on another gift.

The only two new skins introduced as part of Overwatch‘s 2021 Winter Wonderland event are Ice Wraith Genji and Mistletoe Symmetra. Perhaps they’re late for the Overwatch holiday party, or perhaps Genji is in the image but can’t be seen since he’s a ninja. Regardless, Overwatch players can still find them in-game as part of this year’s Winter Wonderland event.

A gift of art and a positive message can go a long way during the holidays. A lot of Overwatch players will be logging on for Christmas and the holidays, whether due to be separated from friends and family or for either reasons. Knowing that the developers at Blizzard wish them well and are thankful for them being fans could make someone’s holiday a little brighter. An Overwatch Christmas is special in its own way.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
