Overwatch: New Blood Comic Releases a New Issue

The Overwatch comic book miniseries Overwatch: New Blood releases its third issue, putting a focus on the support hero Jean-Baptiste.

The video game Overwatch has a variety of characters that players can choose to play as, but there is plenty of story to them as well, like story-related content released in the game in the form of limited-time modes. For example, Overwatch: Uprising followed Overwatch’s efforts in King’s Row against the robotic omnic faction Null Sector.

Overwatch also had a companion comic book series simply titled Overwatch that was released after the first game and followed the stories of most of its playable characters. Characters like Tracer, Winston, Reaper, Widowmaker, Soldier 76, Ana Amari, Reinhardt, Sombra, Doomfist and more have made appearances in the comic series or had their own dedicated comic issues. Some issues even tied into the game’s story missions, such as Overwatch #16, which served as a direct tie-in to the game event Overwatch: Retribution that was released in the game.

Overwatch currently has a new comic book miniseries called Overwatch: New Blood and the first issue was released in November last year. The miniseries is written by Ray Fawkes with art by Irene Koh, it is published by Dark Horse Comics, and each issue is free at the time of writing. This comic series follows the gunslinging Cole Cassidy receiving the call to rejoin Overwatch, and from there he decides to go off and recruit some potential new members to the team. The recently released third issue in the series has Cassidy run into the support hero and combat medic called Jean-Baptiste Augustin.

In the third issue, Cassidy is getting off of a train that stops in Bucharest, Romania, but during his time there, he has an encounter with Jean-Baptiste. Expectedly, the two don’t initially hit it off since Cassidy can tell Baptiste was a former member of the Talon organization by his tactics, but the latter has since defected from them to help however he can in the world. Of course, Baptiste has to quickly make his case to Cassidy, for they’re not the only ones at the train station interested in the activities of two former members of Overwatch and Talon.

By the end of the third issue, Cassidy is on his way to his next destination, which hints at the character who will show up in the fourth issue. The release date for the fourth issue of Overwatch: New Blood has not been confirmed at the time of writing. In the meantime, fans who are waiting for further updates on Overwatch 2 can check out Overwatch: New Blood, the first comic book series, or any of the short stories and novels that explore and expand on the world and characters of Overwatch.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
