The ability to express oneself though altering the appearance of their playable character is something that players of various games seem to find joy in with Overwatch fans being no different. Whether it be the new Mythic skins in Overwatch 2 or the Overwatch League limited skins, fans of the game eagerly await to see what new skins Blizzard will reveal to them.
Something that some fans of Overwatch have requested is to see more crossover skins. Blizzard is home to several iconic properties such as World of Warcraft, StarCraft, and Hearthstone with the company very limitedly tapping into these franchises for new Legendary skins in their premiere shooter. One talented artist attempted to remedy this by designing a skin based around one of Blizzard’s most cherished franchises.
A user on Reddit by the name of JustburnBurnBURN posted a fan created skin for Moira themed after Lilith from Diablo. The concept, designed by Ahmad Rozz, completely changes Moira’s appearance to feature several elements from Lilith such as her massive horns, neck jewelry, and deathly pale skin. The concept overall pulls from Lilith’s design in Diablo 4 with Moira adorning the Queen of the Succubi’s long, tattered robe as seen in her new design.
What could be seen as the most eye-catching element of the skin is the device strapped to Moira’s back. Normally a device to regulate her healing, the piece now appears as a skull with souls taking the place of the tubes. The amount of detail put into the skin is impressive as it features detailed carvings along the skin which Rozz has translated in the character sheet. The overall quality and talent on display is staggering and while it is unknown if Blizzard has seen this concept like another fan-made skin, Overwatch fans seem to enjoy it.
One reason the concept of crossover skins may have become as popular as it is could be due to the fan-service nature of it. Some fans enjoy seeing video game worlds collide and reference each other which is something cross-over skins can do.
With the release of Overwatch 2 on the way, fans are eager to see what new skins and heroes Blizzard has in store for the game. While it is unknown at this time if the Overwatch development team plans to add any skins to reference other Blizzard properties, fans can take solace in the community created concepts to bring these ideas to life.
Overwatch is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
