Co-op Soulslike game Remnant: From the Ashes is making its way to the Nintendo Switch, as revealed by a new trailer from THQ Nordic. First released in 2019, Remnant: From the Ashes earned mostly positive reviews from critics and is generally considered one of the better Soulslike games not developed by FromSoftware.
Remnant: From the Ashes reviews praised the game’s co-op implementation, which allows players to team together, explore the game world, and conquer challenging bosses. It also earned high marks for offering a new twist on the Soulslike formula, focusing on guns and shooting as opposed to melee combat like most games in the genre. The game was not without its critics, but there’s a reason why it’s sold millions of copies and was successful enough to justify a sequel.
Soon, Nintendo Switch gamers will get to see what all the fuss is about with Remnant: From the Ashes. While a specific release date was not announced, the trailer released by THQ Nordic does promise that the game is coming to Nintendo’s home console/handheld hybrid system “soon.” The trailer also shows Remnant: From the Ashes gameplay captured on the Switch itself. While not a ton of gameplay is shown, what’s displayed seems to indicate that Remnant is getting the expected graphical downgrade in its transition to the Switch, but it seems to perform well enough. Fans won’t know for sure how well Remnant runs on the Switch until they have the chance to test it out themselves, of course.
What isn’t clear from the trailer is if the Nintendo Switch version of Remnant: From the Ashes will be coming with the post-launch DLC or not. In the years after Remnant released, it received two substantial expansions: Swamps of Corsus and Subject 2923. Both expansions added new areas, bosses, items, game modes, and more for players to check out, so it would be a shame if Remnant comes to Switch without this additional content. More details on that will likely come to light when the Switch release date is revealed.
While Nintendo Switch owners will finally have the chance to play Remnant: From the Ashes, it doesn’t look like they will have the opportunity to play the sequel. Announced at The Game Awards 2022, Remnant 2 is coming to PC and next-gen consoles at some point later this year. Not much has been shown about Remnant 2 just yet, but between its upcoming release and the Switch port of the original game, Remnant fans have a lot to look forward to in 2023.
Remnant: From the Ashes is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One with a Switch version also in development.
