The Game Awards airs today as nominated games are celebrated and world premiere announcements share the news about highly anticipated games as well as some previously unannounced titles.
The Matrix Resurrections seems to be garnering a lot of attention toward this awards event tonight, as its stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are announced as The Game Awards presenters, another presenter role has been announced.
As a last-minute addition to The Game Awards’ presenters, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has been confirmed to make an appearance. While Druckmann is only confirmed as a presenter, one has to wonder if he will also be shedding light on a project. Indeed, there are many rumors and bits of speculation drifting about that could be given clarification at tonight’s awards ceremony and would be appropriate for the high profile stage.
Since Druckmann has just recently wrapped his explicit duties on The Last of Us‘ HBO TV show, it may be possible that an early, brief teaser of the series may be shown in the same fashion as Halo‘s TV series is being shown. Set photos of the series’ production have already given fans unofficial first looks at Pedro Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, so it is only a matter of time before official footage or teaser snippets are shown of the show’s chief protagonists.
Alternatively, The Last of Us 2 has been sitting on the news of its highly requested multiplayer. The Game Awards could present an opportune time for an update on The Last of Us 2 multiplayer. But the widespread rumor of a remake treatment for The Last of Us had also swirled for a while, with the possibility of that project being shared tonight as well if it proves true.
Of course, Druckmann may also unveil a completely new IP that Naughty Dog has been working on, or he may not announce anything at The Game Awards at all. But with Druckmann’s confirmation for The Game Awards being so last-minute to when the awards show premieres live, it may suggest that there isn’t any big Naughty Dog reveal planned for the event.
Until The Game Awards airs tonight there is no telling what will be shown, if anything, from Naughty Dog’s influential Creative Director and writer. But fans will not have to wait longer than a day to find out if there is indeed anything that Druckmann is prepared to announce.
The Game Awards streams live on December 9, from 5 p.m. PST / 8 p.m. EST.
