MrBeast Teases Stream on Kick Following Twitch’s New Guidelines

In a bold move aimed at supporting Twitch streamers and their protests against the platform’s new advertising guidelines, renowned content creator MrBeast has hinted at a potential stream on Twitch’s rival platform, Kick. As Twitch continues to face backlash from its user base over the proposed change, MrBeast’s involvement injects a powerful surge of solidarity into the fight for streamer rights.

Twitch recently made headlines with its planned policy changes regarding third-party advertisements, set to be implemented in early July 2023. In essence, these changes would have imposed restrictions on the types of overlays streamers could utilize to promote charitable causes or branded products. Burned-in ads were to be banned, and the size of ad overlays was limited to a mere 3% of the screen space, providing streamers with very little area to work with. These policy modifications were met with overwhelmingly negative feedback, including strong opposition from prominent streamers like Asmongold, who called for a Twitch boycott.

YouTube sensation MrBeast also expressed his dissatisfaction with the newly announced Twitch guidelines through a series of posts on his Twitter account. In one of his tweets, he suggested to Twitch that instead of hindering creators’ earnings, it should focus on assisting them in earning more. In another tweet, which has now been deleted, he humorously stated that the situation was the most amusing thing he had seen all year. Despite not being a Twitch streamer himself, he expressed his inclination to stream on a competitor’s platform just to defy Twitch on behalf of others. He emphasized that if YouTube were to implement similar measures, it would greatly frustrate him.

Furthermore, the speculation surrounding this issue was intensified by a tweet from Twitch’s rival, Kick.com, which pointed out that “The GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) had started following its account. This was accompanied by an image showing MrBeast following it on Twitter. In response to Kick’s tweet, MrBeast remarked in a lighthearted manner that he might conduct a stream simply to protest against Twitch.

While it is uncertain whether MrBeast will stream on Kick, it is worth noting that Twitch has already released a statement regarding the guidelines under discussion. Twitch recognized that the language used in its new policy was imprecise and admitted that it had a wider impact than intended. Moreover, Twitch clarified that it would not hinder streamers from securing sponsorships and reaffirmed its dedication to enabling streamers to pursue such partnerships as a way to generate income for their channels.
