Minecraft Players Recreate Iconic Monty Python and the Holy Grail Scene

The comedic taunts of Monty Python and the Holy Grail’s French knights is given life inside Minecraft thanks to the hard work of several players.

Players have been able to flex their creative muscles inside Minecraft for roughly a decade, giving life to everything ranging from original creations to pop and game culture icons like Skyrim‘s epic locales. A less common creation seen, though, is machinima as it can typically be more time consuming and requires multiple players to accomplish. However, one player’s latest creation, taken from the comedy classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail, flexes both in their recreation of one of the film’s most famous scenes.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Originally released in 1975, Monty Python and the Holy Grail was the second feature film from the British comedy troupe Monty Python inspired by Arthurian legends. The film follows King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail, injected with a healthy dose of the surreal, satirical, and dark comedy the group was known for. It also cemented the group’s popularity in the U.S., which was slowly exposed to Monty Python’s brand of comedy through the television series, Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

While a quick scroll through YouTube can find plenty of tributes to the aforementioned film, Reddit user Antillion used Minecraft to share their love for Holy Grail and one scene in particular. The scene in particular sees Arthur and his knights running afoul of some French knights who taunt the Camelot caravan mercilessly and humorously. Antillion doesn’t skimp out, either, letting it run through the scene’s end when Arthur and his comrades are pelted by various farm animals launched from the French’s catapult.

While Antillion says the Minecraft recreation is “probably blasphemy,” the comment section is filled with users applauding Antillion’s work in bringing the scene to life in-game. Some users also took the chance to request Antillion work their Minecraft magic on other popular Monty Python film scenes, such as the ending song from Life of Brian to Holy Grail‘s famous and seemingly immortal Black Knight. Antillion had some fun with these requests, responding with Monty Python quotes playing on how hard making this one scene was.

Jokes aside, the work Antillion and the other players they worked with to bring this scene to life inside Minecraft is evident. Machinima can be a time-consuming endeavor to undertake as players need to be able to coordinate properly to ensure the video, whether it be an original idea or a tribute, comes out as close to the original vision as possible. However, there is something to be said about the sense of accomplisment when it comes out as intended and when the response from viewers is as positive as it was here for Antillion.

Minecraft is currently available on Mobile, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
