A Minecraft player has managed to recreate VR title Beat Saber in the game, except with sheep. Minecraft has seen some of the most remarkable creations in all of gaming, and that doesn’t look set to end any time soon.
Over the years, Minecraft players have become renowned for their ingenuity with their in-game creations. The game’s core concept is rooted in creativity, so it makes sense that this would be a defining trait of its community. With so many amazing creations out there, it takes something really special to stand out among the crowd at this point. One example is the Minecraft fan that made a working trading card game using maps. This Beat Saber recreation fits right in with that level of creativity.
The creation by Redditor GhostSilhoutte is creatively called “Sheep Saber,” and the similarities to Beat Saber are incredible. Players can pick their own music track using a music disk, and select their difficulty which affects the speed at which sheep come at the player. Like Beat Saber, the sheep coming at the player are completely in time with the beat of the song, and must be hit with a sword in order to not fail. According to the Redditor, “Sheep Saber” uses over 3,000 command blocks to function. Command blocks in Minecraft completely changed the degree to which players could tinker with the game, with Redstone being the only alternative before they were introduced.
In the Reddit post, GhostSilhouette explains that “Sheep Saber” was completed entirely in vanilla Minecraft. There has actually been a Minecraft Beat Saber mod created before, however this being made in vanilla only makes the achievement much more impressive. Despite this, the modding community for Minecraft remains extremely strong, adding plenty of new content to Mojang’s already-expansive sandbox. Whether its small features or entire expansions, it seems as though Minecraft mods have something to offer every potential player.
Even twelve years after its initial release, Minecraft continues to be one of the most well-supported games out there. Mojang will soon be releasing the highly-anticipated 1.20 update for Minecraft, which promises to be one of the biggest updates to the game in years. With the upcoming release of Minecraft Legends, the series remains committed to expanding its horizons as it has done often over the years. It’s still a brilliant time to be a fan of Minecraft, but it seems like there’s barely been a time when that hasn’t been the case.
Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
