Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s New Character Elfilin Stirs Speculation Among Fans

One of the new characters introduced in Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Elfilin, is serving as a major source of speculation before release.

Nintendo’s first reveal of Kirby and the Forgotten Land last year generated plenty of noise from Nintendo fans, many of whom were excited to see Kirby making the transition into a fully 3D adventure. A new trailer for this game recently dropped, giving fans a better idea of what to expect from the game. This includes Kirby’s new copy abilities, a fishing minigame, a town inhabited by Waddle Dees, and even a full-on co-op feature. The game also introduces another adorable creature to Kirby’s cast of friends, and they are on the receiving end of some speculation.

More specifically, this new character is known as Elfilin, as indicated by a tweet and screenshot from Nintendo’s social media. He had appeared in the trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land as a character in the background, but this is the first time fans have gotten his name. The post states that he will be Kirby’s newest ally, with attention being brought to his ears. Longtime fans have started speculating there is a lot more to this character than meets the eye. NOTE: major spoilers for Kirby’s Return to Dreamland and Kirby: Super Star will be seen below.

Despite the Kirby franchise’s penchant for adorable and cute aesthetics and design, it is no stranger to diving into darker subjects and themes near the endgame. This is especially prevalent within Kirby: Super Star and Kirby: Return to Dreamland, two games that contain the iconic villains Marx and Magolor, foes that stand out in comparison to Kirby villains like King Dedede. They both betray Kirby at the moment he lets his guard down, turning into the final boss with disturbing imagery. Many fans are already wary that Elfilin will be following the same path.

Much of the caution comes from how Elfilin presents himself as a friendly ally, which Magolor and Marx were initially at the start of the Kirby games they appear in. They both enlist Kirby’s help to save the world, though in reality it helps them further their own agendas. Many are suspecting that Elfilin’s cutesy nature to assist Kirby disguises his goals, and that he will most likely become the final boss.

Another factor that adds to the theories Elfilin will be a big bad are his ears. Part of it seems to be chipped, which may indicate that there is a piece that he will be fighting to get back, which would contribute to him transforming into his final form. Again, this is all speculation until more information for Kirby and the Forgotten Land is revealed, but the discussion is interesting.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land launches March 25, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
