Jonathan Majors Reveals The NBA Hall-of-Famer He May Be Playing In The Future

Barely two months into 2023, Jonathan Majors has already been in two of the year’s biggest blockbusters, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed 3, establishing himself as a big name in Hollywood. As it turns out, Majors already has another role in mind to play down the line: enigmatic Basketball Hall-of-Famer Dennis Rodman.

Following a performance in the substandard Ant-Man 3, in which he was considered the best part, Majors admitted that he would like to play Rodman in an upcoming film and will take the necessary steps to get the full scope of Rodman’s character. In other words, should a project be greenlit, he plans to meet with Rodman to realize the project.

In an interview with AP Entertainment, Majors delved into how he would prepare to play NBA legend Rodman. “Hopefully, I get to sit with him and chat with him. When we get closer and trying to get the script right, all these industry things.” Majors then talked about why he would be so committed to the role. “I never really put a ceiling on myself, but this is definitely a role where I’m definitely going to make sure I’m pushing that ceiling because he demands that. He’s such a full individual, so he’s going to demand a lot. And I’ve got to figure out how to get that, so I’m interested. I’m excited about it.”

No project has gotten off the ground yet, but Rodman’s story is interesting enough that a movie could be made for him. Rodman was an unorthodox NBA star because while he was not a scorer, he was an excellent defender and rebounder for his size. More than that, though, he was best known for being a little eccentric on and off the court. Between taking his shoes off in the middle of an NBA playoff game, to his relationships with Madonna and Carmen Electra, Rodman was his own man, love him or hate him, and that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Over the past several years, moviegoers have gotten more biopics on athletes and teams through movies and television shows. From The People vs. OJ Simpson, I, Tonya, and last year’s Winning Time, Hollywood has focused more on developing projects based on well-known sports stories, even for those unfamiliar with sports. People have even gotten a biopic about Nike designing shoes based on NBA legend and former Rodman teammate Michael Jordan. Rodman received renewed exposure when ESPN aired The Last Dance in 2020. The miniseries detailed some of his odd decisions while playing for the Chicago Bulls. So it would make sense that Rodman could get more spotlight knowing both his reputation and how much time has passed.

And who better to get someone to play Rodman than Majors, who has risen through the ranks over the past few years, most notably with his first big break in The Last Black Man in San Francisco and another standout performance in HBO’s Lovecraft Country. Even if movies he’s been in haven’t been received too well, like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, no one holds him accountable for that movie’s issues in the slightest. Majors wants to show his versatility as an actor, which he’ll certainly do if he gets to play Rodman.
