Japanese Nintendo Magazine Seemingly Teases Unannounced Kirby Game

A Japanese Nintendo magazine teases not only news about the upcoming Kirby and the Forgotten Land, but something that is brand-new too.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land sees the pink puffball exploring a brand-new island, which also serves as the franchise’s transition into a fully 3D adventure. A trailer for Forgotten Land dropped this month, giving fans an insight into what to expect in terms of copy abilities, characters, and even Forgotten Land‘s Co-Op features. Not only is this a brand-new Kirby game following 2018’s Kirby Star Allies, but it will also be released during the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Shortly after the release of the trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Nintendo announced that it would be celebrating 30 years of the franchise. While there weren’t any specifics, such as another new game or merchandise, a tweet announced that Kirby‘s 30th anniversary will be celebrated with a variety of activities coming soon. Fans might soon see what Nintendo has in store for the franchise’s anniversary, as there seems to be a new title in the works alongside Forgotten Land.

An issue of Nintendo Dream, a Japanese magazine publication, has a section covering various aspects about Kirby and the Forgotten Land. A tweet by Twitter user Dedededaio translates part of the blurb at the top, which explains when the next issue will be released. It teases not only more news about the upcoming Kirby entry, but also reveals that there will be news on “a game we didn’t expect” further explaining that a new title is yet to be announced.

There are plenty of avenues that can be potentially taken with this unannounced game, as it will most likely coincide with Kirby’s 30th-anniversary celebration. Back in 2012 for the franchise’s 20th anniversary, Nintendo released a Kirby collection on the Wii. It contained several older games in the series, along with special bonus platforming stages. The same could be repeated for the 30th anniversary, with a set of different games and bonuses included.

Other Kirby fans are speculating that it could be eShop exclusive side-game on the Switch, akin to expanded spin-offs that were released on the 3DS such as Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, Kirby’s Blowout Blast, or Dedede’s Drum Dash Deluxe. Some are hoping that it could be a re-release or remaster of an older game such as Kirby’s Air Ride. This is all speculation until more information about these titles are given next month, but it’s an exciting thing for Kirby fans to look forward to regardless.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land launches March 25, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
