Hilarious Super Mario Odyssey Clip Shows Harriet Mercilessly Bombing Mario on Bus Bench

Thanks to how technology and gaming have grown over the years, games have been able to patch out any unsightly glitches and exploits players find that disrupt their experience through updates. Some of these are reasonable as they change how the game is meant to be played, like the current Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl duplication glitch, but some are just in good fun. Super Mario Odyssey in particular has left some of these glitches in for years.

Mario’s latest 3D venture sees him going through the many kingdoms found in his world with the help of Cappy, a ghost possessing his hat who gives him the power to take over numerous enemies on his journey. Super Mario Odyssey has an almost open-world-like nature to it and opted to design levels to reward players for thinking outside of the box instead of keeping them constrained.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

However, where Super Mario Odyssey gives players unlimited freedom, this also leads to plenty of glitches and skips that players have found since the game was released in 2017. Reddit user HectorR_98 shared a video showcasing one of these exploits in action, which sees Harriet, one of the bosses, strolling through Toastarena before throwing a bomb towards Mario on a bench. The results are hilarious.

Setting Harriet free from her boss fight on top of the pyramid in the Sand Kingdom requires activating what’s called the “Bubble Clip” exploit which has Odyssey recognize that the player has left the boss fight, but doesn’t put them back in right away. As players explore the kingdom while Harriet is still on top of the pyramid, simply collecting a Power Moon will make the barrier around the boss battle vanish, setting Harriet free. This, however, doesn’t explain the constant explosion that occurs when she attacks, affectionately called “nuking” by those who use the glitch.

Other fans have enjoyed seeing this exploit in action, saying that the clip was “directed by Michael Bay” for how over the top Harriet’s explosion is. It’s also rather curious how Mario is invincible sitting on the bench and is even made to sit on the bench backward after Harriet’s first attack. Some fans have asked what mod was used in the clip, only to be surprised to find that this glitch inherently exists in the game.

To prove that it could be done in the game, HectorR_98 even shared the exact video he followed to pull the glitch off, which was uploaded back in 2020. No matter how old that video was, however, the glitch can still be pulled off in Super Mario Odyssey itself without any tools or mods, meaning Nintendo has never bothered to patch it. That might not necessarily be a bad thing, though, as leaving a few fun, harmless glitches for speedrunners or fans to find is never a bad thing in games.

Super Mario Odyssey is out now for Nintendo Switch.
