Ever since its announcement in 2017, Granblue Fantasy: Relink has been going through a quiet, yet seemingly rough development cycle. The game was originally a collaboration between CyGames and PlatinumGames, the latter being responsible for high-quality action games like Bayonetta. This didn’t pan out, as the co-operative action RPG was brought back in-house to be developed by CyGames. Since then, it has left fans waiting in anticipation regarding more news, with the developer having been rather quiet when giving out details about the game.
Fans were eventually given a gameplay video showing off Granblue Fantasy: Relink last year, which had a lengthy look at the game’s “Mega Fleet Battle” along with a boss fight. After that though, fans were not given much more, other than the release window of 2022. Recently however, a brand-new teaser trailer was uploaded, showing off not only many elements of Relink, but announcing it will be adding another platform alongside the PlayStation.
This teaser trailer shows off the gameplay that players will be partaking in Granblue Fantasy: Relink, where Gran and Djeeta are seen exploring various different islands in the sky. The action RPG combat was also given some focus, with some basic combo moves from the two main characters. Not only that, several recruitable allies and their unique combat styles and movesets were showcased, such as Katalina and her graceful rapier or Rackam’s long-ranged options.
The trailer also highlighted some of the gorgeous in-game locations that players can explore in Granblue Fantasy: Relink, from busy marketplaces, to a homey mountain village, to a cliffside that shows how vast the skies of the world are. Many other characters from the Granblue Fantasy series were also shown to be recruitable allies, which the game dubs as “Strong Links” for the players to forge.
A lot of info was then shared on the official website for Granblue Fantasy: Relink, such as how the game will handle its single player and co-op multiplayer modes, known as Main Story and Quest Mode respectively. The multiplayer in particular can support up to four players online, where they can enter an online lobby to chat and tackle a variety of challenges. These quests can also be done solo with the aid of CPU controlled partners. The trailer also made the surprise inclusion of a PC version of the game, which will be available through the Steam storefront.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink will launch worldwide 2022 for PC, PS4, and PS5.
