Unique character design is probably one of the main assets that made Genshin Impact the global success that it is today. Pulling for a new character is probably one of the most exciting things for any player out there.
Each new update usually brings at least one brand new five-star character that is hyped up by multiple beta leaks for that Genshin Impact update. However, unlike the limited banner which allows players to pull for certain characters for three weeks, the standard banner is permanent and so are the five-star characters that are featured on it.
The standard banner includes some of the fan-favorite Genshin Impact characters such as Diluc, Jean or Qiqi. However, all those characters are frequently dropped on the limited banner which means that there is no particular reason why players should pull for this banner. Limited banners have a 90-wish guarantee to drop a five-star character but there is a 50% chance that is a character from the standard banner. A recent leak by a credible Genshin Impact leaker has revealed that future updates might bring a new mechanic that allows players to acquire the standard banner characters without spending their precious Primogems.
It seems as though developer miHoYo is constantly changing the way its banner works. Genshin Impact update 2.3 has brought the first Genshin Impact double banner re-run which allowed players to pull for Albedo and Eula at the same time. This could be miHoYo’s way of compensating for the absence of a new character on a certain banner cycle.
The official Genshin Impact Twitter account has revealed that update 2.4 will bring two brand new characters, Shenhe and Yun Jin. There is no official information but Shenhe is expected to be a five-star character and Yun Jin will have a four-star rarity. Even though many were hoping that Shenhe would be a DPS character, recent leaks have revealed that she is actually a Cryo support. Yun Jin could be a great addition to the famous Geo team composition which seems to be meta now.
Both of these characters will most likely arrive on the same banner which means that there will probably be another banner re-run for the other cycle. Multiple previous leaks have been hinting that Xiao and Ganyu might get a double banner re-run meaning that update 2.4 could have a similar pattern as its predecessor including a double banner re-run for one cycle and two new characters for the other one.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
