The new Grasp of Avarice dungeon in Destiny 2 has introduced a host of new obstacles for players to overcome, including the menacing final boss known as Captain Avarokk. However, one player has found a way to buff themselves to the point of being able to melt the Destiny 2 boss with a single melee attack that does so much damage the game can’t properly display the number.
This latest strategy comes from Destiny 2 content creator Vendetta, who often attempts incredible challenges such as running Raids with limited parties or with alternate class coverage than the general strategies call for. It should also be noted that, while the single melee attack is able to pull a One Punch Man-type feat, it does technically require two hits in order to pull off the required damage to execute the one-shot.
Putting together a series of buffs, Vendetta was able to turn a single Sunbreaker’s Throwing Hammer into an instant boss killer that managed to build up over 5 million points of damage with one throw. Considering that Destiny 2‘s Grasp of Avarice boss Captain Avarokk has roughly 4.7 million hit points, according to fan calculations, this single hit is more than enough to fully kill the boss on its own. The full list of buffs and debuffs currently active come from the Tractor Cannon, a Sunbreaker’s Roaring Flames at three stacks, One Two Punch, Wormgod Caress, Focusing Lens, and finally Turn the Tide, in addition to Captain Avarokk being frozen and in a bubble.
Looking at what it takes to build up this stack of buffs, there is clearly some forethought necessary to pull off the 5 million damage hit, such as having regular enemies to kill with Hammer of Sol before getting to the boss. This also doesn’t appear to be possible without teammates applying some of the debuffs to Captain Avarokk, such as freezing him while the Titan needs to transition between both Sentinal and Sunbreaker. However, none of these buffs are really specific to the Grasp of Avarice. As such, it could be possible for a team with at least one Titan capable of pulling off the build-up to try this on any Destiny 2 Dungeon or high-level activity.
It is unfortunate that the one-hit kill isn’t currently possible without the addition of the Tractor Cannon, which applies a 30% buff to the damage dished out with this supercharged Throwing Hammer. Without the buff, the damage achieved with all of these buffs in only 3.9 million, and comes just shy of finishing off Captain Avarokk in a single hit. However, Vendetta’s feat itself is still incredible, managing to wrap up the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon with a spectacular showing that obliterates the final boss in seconds.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
