It’s the end of the year, and so digital storefronts across all consoles are offering big discounts on hundreds of games. One of the most popular games of 2021, Deathloop from Arkane Studios, is one such game that fans can get for cheap right now, with a new trailer released to help advertise its lowered price point. From now until January 5, 2022, PlayStation 5 gamers can hop onto the PlayStation Store and pick up the critically-acclaimed Deathloop for a whopping 50% off.
Deathloop reviews were overwhelmingly positive at the time of its release and the game has taken home numerous end-year awards, so being able to get it half-off is a steal, to say the least. However, the trailer associated with the discount announcement has an added detail that may be of particular interest to Xbox gamers, as it reiterates exactly when Deathloop‘s PlayStation 5 exclusivity ends.
Thanks to a deal between Bethesda and Sony prior to Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, Deathloop is a timed-exclusive for PS5 on consoles. So even though it is technically an Xbox-owned game, it’s only available on PS5 until September 14, 2022, at which point it can finally make its way to other consoles, like the Xbox Series X. Specific plans for the Deathloop Xbox launch have not been revealed, but since it’s an Xbox-owned game, it’s virtually guaranteed to happen not long after the PS5 exclusivity window ends.
Once Deathloop‘s PS5 exclusivity wraps up, the next step would be for the game to come to Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft has made it clear that part of the reason it acquired Bethesda was to get content for its Xbox Game Pass subscription service, and one has to imagine that Deathloop is going to be a day one Xbox Game Pass game when the Series X port is finally announced. Whether or not that happens as soon as September 14, 2022 rolls around or not remains to be seen, but fans will find out more information next year.
Whenever Deathloop does come to Xbox, it should be a big get for the platform and Game Pass. Deathloop has won numerous awards in a variety of categories from many publications and ceremonies this year, with the game highly regarded as one of the absolute best new releases of all of 2021. It definitely stings for Xbox that such a well-regarded game is a timed-PS5 exclusive, but it does mean that Xbox gamers have a lot to look forward to in 2022.
Deathloop is out now for PC and PS5.
