Dark Souls Player Shares Ridiculous Strength Build

A Dark Souls player shows off their ridiculous Strength build that they are using to play through the acclaimed action-RPG.

One of the reasons why FromSoftware’s Dark Souls games are so popular is because they give players freedom when it comes to their characters, which lends itself well to a variety of different play styles. A popular strategy in Dark Souls and similar games is to roll with a character that has a high damage output and can wield heavy weapons, something players can achieve by spending points improving the Strength stat.

Generally speaking, most Dark Souls players will want to spend their points on three specific stats or so, otherwise it can result in a less-than-ideal build where the character is the jack of all trades, master of none. It’s not a good idea to spend all points in a single stat, but that’s exactly what Dark Souls player Motherofbaby has done, leveling their character up to 35 with 40 Strength and 11 points in all other categories.

Motherofbaby shared their stats on the Dark Souls Reddit, saying that they were having difficulty defeating Ornstein and Smough. The boss fight with Ornstein and Smough is considered one of the toughest fights in the game, but one has to imagine that it would be made significantly more challenging rocking a build that focuses exclusively on Strength, like Motherofbaby. One user asked if the post was a joke, but Motherofbaby claims this is legitimately their build and eventually managed to defeat Ornstein and Smough with it.

Motherofbaby shared more details about their Dark Souls Strength build, claiming that they used shortcuts and other tricks to get to Ornstein and Smough in Anor Londo relatively quickly. Ultimately, they had to enlist the aid of Solaire of Astora to defeat the duo, but it’s still an impressive feat nevertheless. It will be interesting to see if they decide to share a progress report when they reach the end of the game, and how their stats may be changed from this initial post.

Spending Dark Souls souls on a single stat is not a great strategy, but it does give the game extra challenge, which is likely what Motherofbaby was going for with this particular build and run. Dark Souls players challenge themselves to beat the game and its bosses in all kinds of bizarre ways, whether that’s through strange builds like this one or by using unconventional input methods. In fact, some Dark Souls players have even managed to defeat Ornstein and Smough using voice controls.

Dark Souls Remastered is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
